Default Next Stop for Lexus? India

Lexus is planning its entry into the India market, where it will sell the LS 460 (long-wheelbase model pictured) along with the LX 470 and RX 350 by decade's end.

NEW DELHI — India will become the next target for Lexus, which plans to pit the LS 460 sedan, the LX 470 utility vehicle and the RX 350 crossover vehicle against similar luxury entries from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.

Parent Toyota already is laying the groundwork for a dedicated dealer network in that country, according to India's Economic Times. The Japanese automaker has begun recruiting exclusive dealers in larger cities and metropolitan areas — but is expected to tap existing dealers that handle Toyota-brand products from the local joint venture Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

The first Lexus vehicles are expected to hit Indian roads by 2010, the newspaper said.

What this means to you: Toyota's global marketing machine has been relentless in rolling out the Lexus brand in major markets around the world. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Don't they mean LX570? The 470 isn't even sold anymore.

I saw the LX570 parked on the street the other day. Man, what a disgrace to Lexus. The paint had more orange peel than a low end Chevy.

I've seen several LX570s on the roads, and I have seen absolutely no sign of orange peel on any of them. Strange that you saw that much orange peel.

Good news, but I wonder why the IS and GS aren't included. Too firm riding for India's roads?
