Default Dealing with insurance

Recently I had a friend who was involved a car accident and totaled his car in an accident that was not his fault. Now insurance is screwing him over for the value of the car. They are basing the car off of edmunds.com instead of blue book. So instead of the $4500 he should be getting from blue book, they(state farm) is giving him $2000 or if lucky $3000.

This does not seem right to me, some who gets into an accident by a wreckless driving and ends up losing a few grand out of it. If anyone has any advice on what he can do please chime in.

BTW the car is a 2002 hyundai accent with 80k miles and he paid $4900 for the car a year ago.

kbb prices are usually high for most cars out there. indeed edmunds prices are more accurate these days.

If he can find a similar car on a parking lot, that should be the price they give him. I'm surprised they aren't using NADA, which is worse, I think. He can always sue them. Their legal fees to defend a suit would be more than they may save, so they may give a little more.
