I just went through the worst oil change on my sister's Accord. All was well until it came time to start the car. I fired her up and heard oil spraying out, which turned out to be coming from the filter seal area. It turns out the rubber gasket had detached from the filter and the seal had given way under pressure. Oil went everywhere, around pan area, the wheel, the wheel-well, driveway, you get the picture. I took the Fram filter back to Walmart and the manager was kind enough to refund the filter and comp me a new one and some more Mobil 1 oil. That was redeeming. But the 20 minute job turned three hour odyssey could have been avoided.
In the future... OEM Filters FTW. I just got lazy and bought the filter from the same place I buy oil.

well.... i've had that happen on just about every oil filter made. oem toyota, oem jaguar, oem audi, bosch, fram, purolator, etc. it's usually because the previous oil changer didn't coat the seal with some oil before installing hte filter.
i've seen some peopled dog fram for other reasons, namely their lack of filtering ability...

A wise decision.

Though Lee Maxifilter and Purolator aftermarket filters generally have a good reputation, I have heard of Fram filter seal problems before.......you are not the first one, although many people (like 1SICKLEX) have used them with no problems. It's always best, IMO, to use factory filters while the car is under warranty, and to have oil changes documented.....I've said that for years. That way, if you DO have oil or filter-related warranty problems, the company is MUCH more likely to honor the claim.
If you have the oil changes done at the dealership, of course, you will get the factory filters....or you can purchase them at the Parts Department and change the oil yourself. But save receipts and proof-of-purchases for both oil and filters.

I forgot to add, though (although you probably know it) that you are not REQUIRED to use OEM parts to maintain warranty coverage, as long as the parts meet OEM specs. Still, it is a good idea.

A few weeks ago, I was doing some spirited driving and once I made it back home, I realized there was a trail of oil behind my car. The rubber gasket had given out on the OEM TOYOTA filter and oil was leaking out under pressure. I even took it to my local Toyota dealer where I buy my filters and the guy just shrugged his shoulders and said wow that is bad, good thing u caught it in time.
