I want someone to come out with a '2-door sedan' lol

Credit of that pic of my car goes entirely to kaydee, I love that run of pix we did.

The whole 4-door coupe thing is because coupes imply cool, sedans/saloons imply responsible and wagons (and the smaller cousin the hatch) imply practical; no one wants to be responsible or practical.

The term "Coupe" comes from the French word "Couper", meaning "cut". Its precise definition, in automotive terms, varies among manufacturers, but, in general, it refers to a closed-body, solid-roof car with two doors and one or two rows of seats inside. Some early "coupes" of the 1930s, like the Model A Ford, also had a fold-out rumble-seat in the trunk for one or two extra people seated behind the cabin, outside.

To clarify Nissan calls the Maxima the 4DSC, 4 door sports car. They never called it a coupe.

I completely agree. Everything else is just a merketing gimmick. Yes the gimmick works, but calling a sedan a coupe does not a 2 door make.

I love the look of "coupe" sedans, but it is not a coupe.

Not as I see it. If you call the 550GT a coupe, you have to do the same thing for the Honda Crosstour, which is an almost identical design. And neither of them, IMO, being 5-doors, fit the most widely-accepted definition of a coupe.

A MINI is a classic coupe.

An Isetta is not.

The 1968-73 2 door Datsun 510s were sometimes referred to as 2-door sedans. The JDM 510 Bluebirds were real coupes.

In my opinion, the Maxima lost its 'soul of a sports car' after the 4th generation. I had 2 3rd gen maximas which were the first to carry the 4DSC moniker.

Yes, common internet thing.

But fortunately most of us know a coupe when we see one (regardless of various definitions).
