Gotta love the BMW fanboys already making comments about something that hasn't been confirmed.

AND FWIW i feel like I remember reading that the 8spd was about the same size as the 6 spd, simpler, and weighed less. Don't quote me on that but I do think I read it.

Wow, so now all the BMW guys who said "Bah Zee Lexus 8 speed is overkill" should jump into the Grand Canyon with no parachute.

Its probably a GM unit anyway, no? BMW uses GM trannies and they are excellent in BMWs.

I think for a car like the LS/7, it works. I do find it overbearing in the IS-F.

I still think 8spd is overkill, BMW or not. In the GS460, 3rd gear all the way to 5th gear are spaced so closely that it seems redundant.

It was serious overkill on the track, I was slapping gears like I was, uhhhh nevermind

Also, I was hoping for more MPG improvement. We didn't get that either.

Werd. Unfortunately, the GS460's 8th gear ratio is just about the same as our 5th gear ratio in our GS. I wasn't able to drive the GS460 as hard, but it was definitely for me after hitting 4th gear.

BMW uses both ZF and Hydra-Matic which is GM.

I know I read that before too. Maybe in a review. And of course they had to somehow find a way to put down Lexus. Like the 7-series isnt a land yacht either (as well as the transmission being available in the much smaller IS-F). Just report the news dammit.

LOL...I think he was trying to spell the Aisin. The company that supplies the 8-speed auto for the LS and IS-F.

depends on the vehicle, 7-series will use a ZF unit. The lower models use the Hydra-Matic.
