9500i is in a class of its own!
1. Very rare to get false alarms and when you get one you can lock out that signal and it is eliminated. I had a portable radar display about a mile from the house locked out (a couple days before) and when I approached it the detector went off (I was going about 34 in a 25). It turns out the cop was down the block from the display so anyone who had radar would think it was the display. (Devious)
2. You can mark any location to alert.
3. When you get an alert the speed you were traveling at is displayed.
You also can get a continuous MPH readout.
4 There are several "AUTO" mode functions that are GREAT! 1. “AUTO” volume control: when you get an alert you get a voice telling you what band and a tone that will reduce in volume after a couple seconds. 2. "AUTO" highway/city mode sensitivity; under 50 mph = city, above 50 = highway. 3. "AUTO" dimming display, night = dimmer, day = brighter.

Radar jammers are illegal because they interfere with the radio spectrum which your government controls 100%. Laser jammers are quite legal (they use uncontrolled light frequencies) and some work very well.

Because Valentine Research owns the patent on a detector with a front and rear radar antenna and arrows to locate radar. It's impossible for any other detector to locate radar with only one antenna pointed to the front.

Laser jammers are currently illegal in nine states so far. Just click on the state and it will tell you the law.

The 9500ix comes with a three year subscription to a national red light and speed camera data base. The detector will alert you of them upcoming. You can also update the 9500i to have this feature.

You can't go wrong with either the the V1 or the 9500, as far as detection. But, if you what a unit that can be programed to totally eliminate falses and can detect red light/speed cameras the 9500 (With GPS) is the way to go. As far as the picking up signals from behind/sides, the 9500 is just as good as the V1 but it does not have the arrow.

the valentine one is the best ive ever seen. back in my corolla days i had a cop friend who was also into cars.
he owned both a valentine 1 and a police issue radar gun. we tested every damn scenario and the valentine one was on point 100% of the time.
