Default Honda Fit or Scion xD??

I'm still in my quest of deciding on my next car. It must be cheap, and it must have great gas mileage. If I'm going for a hatch, it's between these two. Although the Yaris sedan is in contention if I go for a sedan (as well as being cheaper and even more fuel efficient).

I'm suprised people don't compare these two all the time. They are the most direct competitors to each other in the US market. They both sell at about $16,500 full equipped. They are both about the same size as a 5-door hatch.

But they look very differant from each other stylistically. The xD is more powerful and faster, the Fit is slightly more fuel efficient. The Fit also has those all important "magic seats" and lower floor. I won't go into all of my opinions as I want to get everyone elses first.

So what do you guys think?

The poll is a multiple choice poll. Vote once for overall choice, once for styling.

Thanks!

Sorry, I screwed up the poll and forgot to make it multiple choice. So just vote on over best car and discuss styling in you posts. Unless a Mod can fix it.

Thanks guys!

I'd wait for the new Fit then we'll see.

Right now I'm not to interested in the '09 Fit. Plus, it will probably be sold out for a long time after release.

I'll keep my sites on what's now available.

Better performance, interior quality and stereo go to the xD.
Better (umodded) exterior looks and handling edge go to the Fit, although I've read the 2009 Fit performs better but handles worse.

Scion is a lot more customisable if you feel the need for it later on. Plus, TRAC/VSC is an option ($650) if you want added security. It has Toyota's brand new 1.8 litre ZR engine to boot.

great thread....

I kind of like the Scion better....but ONLY if you throw some 18's on it!

I see a lot more Fits than xD, I wonder if you can get a better deal on the Scion as well?

nice....

Too be honest, I'm not interested in either, so if someone cost posts interior pics and performance specs then I'll know which I would prefer.

I'd also consider the Toyota Matrix -- I know they're a little more expensive, but I'm sure you could get a base model close to these prices....

Go for the xD than. My friend sold his 02 Junction Produce Airbagged Infiniti F50 for a Hoda Fit for the gas mileage and he wasn't happy with the real world gas mileage which was under 30 MPG so he now bought a UCF30 LS430. Not sure if the gas mileage was the main factor, but I do recall him stating he was unhappy with the Fit MPG.

actually if you go to fueleconomy.gov -- for the Fit you'll see quite a few folks report that their MPG is way over what its rated for....some up to 42mpg (mostly hwy of course).
