any time i hear about a tree falling on a car i think of that insurrance commercial where the guy is only covered if the tree if a ficus ... was if a ficus OLT?

The same thing happened to my 2nd Gen at my office. Of course my employer said that they weren't responsible and that I should contact my auto insurer. The roof between the sunroof and rear window was bashed in. I'm not sure how I avoided any broken glass. My Allstate insurance covered the $3000 repair including the rental car for 2 weeks under the comprehensive portion of the policy. My body shop had to cut the roof panel off between the side suports. I was very suprised that they repaired it good as new. No leaks, squeeks or rattles. I drove it for another year and a half before trading it. YMMV.
I'm confused when you said that your insurance wouldn't cover an act of God. Did you not have comprehensive coverage?
