2009 Acura TL thread (merged threads, painted beak)

So much for Acura not messing up the new TL as some people were predicting.
Just as I predicted, it looks horrible. The busy front end and the side profile are a complete styling mish-mash. Sharp angles, character lines, and creases combined with swoopy, curvy styling makes the car look very awkward. The front fender flares only further draw attention to the long front overhangs and also to the fact that this is a FWD car. The current-gen TL hides it's FWD proportions quite well due to very clean and tight styling.
I also predict the rear end will look worse than the front end.
The styling is simply goofy and gimmicky. This new TL *might* steal sales away from Lincoln, Cadillac, or possibly Mazda. There is simply no sense of elegance or luxury in the design. Alternatively, I can see many current TL owners moving into a Genesis over this monstrosity. Even if I was still a Honda/Acura fan, I would still buy a Genesis over this thing.

Acura forgot people did buy their cars b/c they were either bland/inoffensive or in the TL's case, a beauty. The last TL could have been bought on Looks alone, I would totally understand that decision.
This thing is horrific.
First off, they are totally confused did they want to go "aero" and curved vs angular. Thus you have a Lexus GS roofline mixed with a pointy front end and sides. So its a mess from the start.
The window chrome is way to thick and the sideview mirror looks way to small.
The rear tail light looks from that angle from the new Camry
The wheels are not bad, just busy and show tiny brakes.
That front wheel arch is horrific, looks like a giant car pimple
The front bumper is MASSIVE. Look how high up it starts with the headlight. The overhang just looks huge
Headlight could be from the last model
Grill is horrific, like a giant shield that no one wants. Army of none.
Busy foglight mixed with waht looks like a turn signal ala cadillac
Cheese grater front end
The sides are bland with a crease but much less succssful than last.
The lower body panels on the side "tuck" so this car will appear to sit high like a SUV.
ANOTHER car with a curved C-pillar ala BMW and everyone else. Should have kept the last TL C-pillar shape.
Overall, an absolute disaster and makes the new TSX not seem half as ugly.

While I’m not in love with the car, I’m definately happy they did better than the disaster that is the Acura RL. The guys over at Car Lounge might not like what they call the “cheese grater” nose, but it looks alright. A bit busy looking yeah, but decent enough because Acura has ripped off design cues from pretty much every competitor out there. I’m trying really hard to be nice because I dont want to bite my tongue when the live shots come out. I’ll wait a bit longer before I pass my judgement.
Some people might have problems with Acura’s recent exterior aesthetics, but the spec sheet is definately impressive. The saving grace comes from earlier news that Acura’s redesigned luxury sedan will bring two distinctive versions including the first ever application of ‘Super Handling All-Wheel Drive’ (SH-AWD) on the TL. Looking back to April, Left Lane News reminds us that dealers were allegedly told the 2009 Acura TL lineup will get two models: “a base front-wheel drive car and an up-level all-wheel drive model. The front-driver will be powered by a 280 horsepower 3.5L V6 whereas the AWD model will receive its motivation from a 3.7L V6 producing 310 horsepower.” There has been no mention of a Type-S model though.
