Yes, I agree that many large corporations will post a loss from time to time but GM is a multi-national, multi-billion dollar very large corporation and to see these large losses for three consecutive years and the first three months of 2008 doesn't look good at all. The last time GM made a profit was in 2004 and they only made $2.8 billion, they lost ($10.6) billion in 2005, lost another ($2.0) billion in 2006 and lost another ($38.7) billion in 2007. For the first three months of 2008 GM lost ($3.3) billion. This is something very rare for such a large corporation. In accounting terms, GM has definitely have a going concern issue. Going concern is a basic underlying assumption in accounting. The assumption is that a company or other entity will be able to continue operating for a period of time that is sufficient to carry out its commitments, obligations, objectives, and so on. In other words, the company will not have to liquidate or be forced out of business in the foreseeable future.
