Link to the rumor please? The GX slots in between the RX and the LX nicely and has been selling quite well (for its segment) so I don't see it being killed for any sane reason. It could use a refresh to bring its powertrain (5.7L as an option would be nice) and gadgets (Smart Key, PCS/ACC, Intuitive Parking Assist, etc.) up to date, however.

Lexus will debut a fuel-efficient dedicated hybrid model early next year, so that's something to help boost the sales too.

I thought that they were just going to move it to its own platform & not the 4Runner's.

The GX still sells decently so I doubt that it will get the axe. If they keep it based off of the 4Runner then their profit margin would be higher than other models making it more desirable to keep in the stable. w/ SUVs sales going down I wonder if they will come up w/ a new Lexus exclusive platform.

The Corolla #s seem a bit off. w/ compact cars w/ small engines in style, I would have thought that the new Corolla would be flying off lots.

Looks like BMW is doing very, very well despite the harsh economic climate. Mini sales are growing. I was thinking of getting one for the wife, but when we went to the dealership in Irvine, we were totally ignored. That really put us off.

It doesn't surprise me that Lexus is not doing well. I'm sorry but their current line of cars is just plain boring. Nothing really excites me. The LS is boring compared to its European counterparts and that is the flagship vehicle. I was driving behind one the other day and it did nothing for me. I think Lexus is getting a little too comfortable and needs a good kick in the pants to make their vehicles more interesting. They need to hire the guys over at Calty to design another coupe to replace the aging SC.

Mazda continues to do well. As a current Mazda owner, I think they have the most interesting cars out there for a second tier company. They are what Honda was in the 90's. The new Mazda3 and Mazda6 will hit showrooms soon and if they continue with current successful design cues, there is no doubt the other Japanese Mfgs. will be concerned.

But it's not possible for the new RX to be out this year. The 2009 RX is already out. So the next model will be the 2010 RX. However, you're not allowed to release a 2010 model in the year 2008.

Awfully hard to dump on Lexus. I think all the mfrs are caught off guard by the increase in fuel price and slowdown when looked at in light of the huge development times they now have. Not a good time to be a corporate elephant in a tutu. The guy who can revamp his lineup quickly is going to pick up sales.

GX and RX... but RX is big seller there.

Also all-new hybrid will come out which will probably be volume seller.

Toyota wants to up hybrid production 60% next year, on strenght of new models. And it looks like it might be needed with hybrid sales being record high.

p.s. look at Poor Scion - article 2 months ago proclared it dead, ha ha ha. Sales up 30%.

I honestly think the economy is going to get worse before it gets better and with gas prices jumping as it has been the days of $4-5/gallon are not far off.

It's going to be a roller coaster ride for most car makers for quite some time.

Any info on the hybrid-only model from Lexus?

When is it coming?

Will it be a crossover or a sedan?

Will it use a 4 cyl. engine or a V6?

Lightbulb Prelim Honda Report

Preliminary Honda Sales Report Shows April Increase
Honda Division sets April record; final numbers to be released as soon as available Text Only April08_Preliminary_Sales.doc
05/01/2008 - TORRANCE, Calif. -

Due to technical difficulties, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., is forced to delay the posting of final April 2008 sales numbers until the issue is resolved. All reported numbers are approximate and are expected to show increases when final results are tallied. Preliminary sales tabulations show that American Honda April sales will exceed 134,000 vehicles, compared to 126,419 vehicles for April 2007.

Individual April records for the Fit, Civic, Civic Hybrid and CR-V will push Honda Division sales to an all-time April record of more than 121,500 units, compared to 111,226 units a year ago.

"Selling conditions are certainly tough, but at Honda we see this as an opportunity," said **** Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "In difficult times, consumers make very rational, thoughtful purchase decisions, which play into Honda's core brand strengths of outstanding fuel economy, safety and quality."

The Acura Division will post April sales of at least 12,900 vehicles, compared to year-ago results of 15,193 units.

The one that I've read the most about is Lexus version of the next gen Prius that will be economy oriented instead of performance oriented like the current Lexus hybrids. It is supposed to be a bit more squared off than the Prius so it will look a bit more wagon-like.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi of America, Inc.
announced today sales for the month of April totaling 7,730, a decrease of
4.6% from last year's record figures. Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales
continued their record-setting trend; compared with last year's April
figures, CPO sales rose to 3,175 units, an increase of 56.4%.

in sales of the A6. Dealers in several big markets, including Atlanta,
Chicago and New York, also recorded year-over-year gains.

To date, Audi has sold 28,286 vehicles in 2008, a 2.9% decrease over

Chrysler LLC Reports April 2008 Sales; Fuel-Efficient Compact Vehicle Sales Set New April Record

- The fuel-efficient Dodge Caliber, Jeep(R) Compass and Jeep Patriot set
new compact vehicle April sales record
- Chrysler Sebring Convertible sales take off as spring 'top-down' driving
season begins
- All-new Dodge Journey launches new ad campaign 'If you can dream it, do
it'
- Best-selling 'New Day' Value Package models continue to attract customers

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler LLC today reported
total April 2008 sales of 147,751 units, which is 23 percent below the same
period last year. Overall sales were most affected by slowing truck and SUV
demand and a dramatic cut in daily rental-fleet sales. All sales figures
are reported as unadjusted.

"The overall decrease in April sales, particularly of pickup trucks,
demonstrates that the auto industry continues to be under pressure from the
national economy," Vice Chairman and President Jim Press said. "Despite the
economic challenges, and concern about rising fuel prices, we continue to
hear from consumers that there is growing interest in vehicles that meet
specific needs, such as the Dodge Journey seven-passenger crossover for
families and the Dodge and Jeep fuel-efficient compact vehicles for young
professionals. Our plan is to continue to focus on meeting customers'
needs, and managing our overall inventory to best weather this slowdown."

Chrysler's lineup of compact vehicles continued to connect well with
consumers this month. Total compact vehicle sales of the fuel-efficient
Dodge Caliber, Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot, which each achieve 28 miles
per gallon or better in highway driving, reached an April record 17,977
units last month, up 16 percent from April 2007.

As the spring "top-down" driving season begins, the Chrysler Sebring
Convertible finished the month with 2,827 units compared with April 2007
sales of 1,447 units, a 95 percent sales increase. Also enjoying a positive
month was the Dodge Charger with sales of 13,021 units in April, a 29
percent increase over 2007 April sales.

In April, the company launched its largest digital-advertising campaign
in Chrysler history for the all-new Dodge Journey, 'If you can dream it, do
it.' The Journey, with best-in-class fuel economy (25-mpg hwy, 4-cylinder),
delivers a unique combination of versatility and flexibility at less than
$20,000. The Journey increased sales to 6,667 units in only its third month
on the market.

As a result of the success of its "New Day" packages, Chrysler will
continue to offer the popular packages in May. The packages have struck a
chord with buyers by combining the company's most sought-after features on
a wide range of vehicles at reduced prices.

The Company finished the month with 422,353 units of inventory, or a
74-day supply. As part of a planned reduction in manufacturing and
capacity, inventory is down 13 percent compared with April 2007 when it
totaled 482,786 units.

"I'd like to thank our Subaru Retailers for a record April performance
and their fourth month of retail sales growth this year," said Tim Colbeck,
vice president of sales for Subaru of America. "It is nice to see growth in
each of our car lines, especially in a tough economy. Our all-new Forester
is off to a great start and to add to the excitement it just won a
Crossover SUV comparison with its competitors in the June edition of Motor
Trend. With these strong products and dealers we are well positioned to
continue to build on these successful results."
