Motor Trend reviews the 2009 BMW X6: Perfectly pointless

I was reminded of the Caliber when I first saw the X6 too. Although the Caliber is much more practical, fuel efficient, ect. (totally different size, class, price anyway).
The Caliber is a great idea by Dodge, the X6 not so much.
And 4894-pounds - OUCH!

Ok, let me bring some point to those who don't see it in this car.
Me: married with two little kids (two car seats) car enthusiast. I like power (a lot), and I need to drive my kids here and there almost every day. I got 335i - fast nice car, but car seats on the back hardly fit in. I would not buy an X5 for the reason that it's too big for me for every day driving, and 3.0 is too slow, 4.8 - too much gas. Now, X6 - perfect combination 3.0 twin turbo, direct injection - plenty of power, even more if I chip it (same engine as my 335i), 24MPG actual city gas mileage always in traffic, and plenty of space for the kids in the back. Also, it doesn't look bad exterior-wise in my eyes at all.
Makes sense?

I didn't say I prefer styling of X6 over X5. If N54 engine ever makes its way into X5, I'll be one of the first ones to get it.

I actually like this car better than the X5. The X5 is bland compared to the X6 and the X6 at the same time looks more dynamic and fun. If only BMW offered a nice economical and torquey diesel in the US I would actually try to persuade my old folks to check it out. They're looking for a new car to replace the Buick.
Besides, the writer was praising the X6 from an engineering and driving point of view.
