Facelifted Honda Legend
Style changes in Honda lineup will soon take a further step, as TheCarFanatic.com has shown us with pictures of the New Honda Legend, taken possibly at the first company presentation of the car for dealers (check the plate with the name of the car and the place in which it has been shown, full of references to the model). No information has been officially disclosed on the new sedan so far, but we can surely say it is not a deep change, only a facelift on the previous version of the Legend, sold in the USA as the Acura RL.
Considering the New Accord (named Inspire for the Japanese market) got an upgraded V6 engine, with VCM (Variable Cylindre Management), which can switch off up to three cylindres, in order to improve fuel economy and lower emissions, the new Legend will also bring this engine as its main feature, besides the revised exterior. We can also expect for changes on the interior of the car, making it even more luxurious, but that is about everything Honda’s new sedan will present as news. Until, of course, its next generation brings a roomier interior and, why not, a V8 engine with rear-wheel drive. Hyundai has been faster in doing so by presenting the Genesis, or else, Honda and Toyota should not wait too much to follow the same steps.

Looks like the disappointing Acura RL refresh we saw a few months ago except it does not have the odd grill. The RL out now is a very nice looking car and only needed maybe a more aggressive grill like what is on the MDX modified to look good on the RL, sit a little lower, a little longer, and the rear end cleaned up but instead they totally changed a good looking car for the worse. The headlights are now way to big and don't mesh well especially with that odd looking grill and the rear looks odd and not well thought out. The interior upgrade is very nice with the extra wood, cooled seats, added rear seat room, weather updates on nav and the added power, tighter steering/suspension, and more rearward bias to the SHAWD system is welcome but I can't believe they actaully thought this refresh exterior is an improvement over the current one and why did they have to totally change the look of the car. I guess I will wait to hold final judgement until I see it in person, hopefully it looks better in person.

Oh they still have a strong following. I've been to a couple of their meets and it is scary how some of these guys, truly believe the Legend is flat out, hands down the best car ever made, despite its weak power output, poor fuel economy, boat like ride, wheel well rust issues, and my personal favorite; the fact that the V6 is longitudinally mounted and thus the driveshaft goes through oil pan.
I had a Prelude and it was great and all, but not that great and from the time Ive spent behind the wheel of a Legend....well I just don't get the fervor.

Mind you all these cars are mid 15 second cars. I fail to see where the Legend lacked in power and fuel economy, especially since it was the cheapest among it's competitors.

The Honda grille, while a bit boring, is so much better than the Acura grille.

That because you keep comparing the legend to the cars available today. You've been talking down on the legend in most legend-related posts.

And price is all it had. The Legend is tied with the GS300 for having the worst fuel economy. And youre comparing the GS, the top of the line Legend to the base offerings, except the BMW, from the competiton.
So 13 years later, the same thing is still coming out of Acura. You've got V8s, direct injected sixes, turbos coming from other companies and from Acura you have Vtech. Its lame and I don't get the hype.
And I'd throw one more in there for your comparison.
1995 Oldsmobile Aurora
MSRP $31,995
Engine: 4.0L V8, 250 hp/ 260 trqs.
Fuel economy 17/24
Sounds like a better bargain to me.

Those pics just go to show how much the hideous grill is ruining what are otherwise decent designs from Honda/Acura. The Legend actually looks pretty good! The bigger headlights and shark's-tooth taillights aren't as jarring without that big hunk o'chrome dominating the entire design.
One major reason I have an RDX right now instead of an MDX is that ginormous chrome grill. If that is Acura's new design statement, I won't be buying another one until it changes...
