VW comes up with some of the most user-unfriendly names... Tiguan, Phaeton, Scirroco, Toureg. And while we're at it, Passat is not much better. I always think "pass out" when I hear the name.

Hmmm........I agree with most people that VW should really think of easier names for the cars. I'm sure not being able to pronounce whatever car you might be considering may put off at least 5-10% of potential new car owners.

The new VW looks a bit awkward to me. Kinda looks like a cheap Korean stationwagon.

The Touareg name is derived from the French moniker for the nomadic Tuareg tribe. The proper pronunciation is TWAH-reg, however it is commonly mispronounced as "Tour-egg".

VW Tiguan

As part of a marketing strategy by Volkswagen the name was chosen by the public through the Auto Bild group with over 350,000 voters through Auto Bild's magazines and Web sites. The other possible names were Namib, Rockton, Samun and Nanuk. Tiguan is a combination of the German words Tiger (“tiger”) and Leguan (“iguana”).

VW Passat

Passat, a type of wind / Passat (ship), a sailing ship named after the wind

VW Scirocco

Sirocco is a Mediterranean wind.

Yea, I know the origins of the names. Like Scirocco is Italian for some type of trade wind. All these names may actually mean something but that doesn't make them good names for cars. I mean, Nebula is a real name but do you want to drive one?

Isn't there a car in Japan called "Toppo BJ"?

This is what I was thinking. Unless you're really after efficiency, is it even that much more efficient? (I can't remember)
