I wasn't thinking of power absorbed, just power used and just wanted to do a (very) rough calculation.

Tesla needs 15kVA for 3 hours according to their website. This converts to 12kWh or 36kW. Interestingly enough, this converts to 48 hp, so Tesla's claimed 220 hp can't be delivered for very long without running out of charge. I'm pretty certain the range claims are based on average power in the 16 to 18 hp zone - about normal freeway cruising power.
