Tier 2
Audi: as VW's luxury division, Audi has become very well respected world wide. It's contemporary and modest design philosophy really grabs the attention of the buyers who want a fine built German saloon without the glitter and flash of a Mercedes-Benz.
So that is why they are Tier 1. That is the reason. Not their maybe best interiors around, not the R8 and A8, not the RS cars, not their great AWD. Not their detail or good diesels.
No b/c somehow a giant grill offers less flash than a Mercedes that is why they are up there.

Friends
Oh my what a coincidence. Let me preface my post by saying that I never watched Friends when it was on & only recently started watching it online so this morning I started watching an episode where they use a Jag as a cool car in the story. Monica wants Chandler & Joey to take her bf to the Nicks game but when they are reluctant, she tries to entice them by mentioning his Jag:
@ the 4 minute mark
That said, yeah, I remember when a Jag was something worth mentioning but nowadays, not so much ...

I am going to go down the street and ask 30 people what Tier are the chicken brands.
KFC, Popeyes, Church's Mrs Winners, Snack in the box, Kroger, etc.
What moron does a sample size of 30 people for something as vast as automobiles?
Bottom line this writers internet access should be revoked forever and may he go back to high school and get their GED.

I agree with this article some what but because of Lexus' hard work, I would have to put Lexus in the tier 2 bracket or what ever it's called. People may say that Lexus is just a "Toyota" but most would say that Lexus has done it right over the years and Lexus deserves to be separated from Infiniti and Acura. To me, Infiniti has just started to up its game recently and no comment regarding Acura. Far as Jaguar, I would keep it in tier 2 because of its rich history. Things may not be going good as of today but Jaguar still has its prestigious background to back it. Audi as well could be a tier 2 brand because of it's history as well.

At its best, this a woefully inaccurate brand awareness study.
Even in Antarctica you could find more than 30 people to ask.

So did the dude not write it, or did he feel shame making a fictious story?

"We randomly asked 30 people on the street to do a survey and that is why we have a 3 tier grouping system."
Nope. That actually does not explain why you used a 3 tier grouping system.

Doesn't this confuse awareness with prestige?
Neither of which are truly important to a car's end user though.

Good topic!
I agree with most of your findings, except with Acura maybe.
I think their good standing has more to do with the products of their past then what they currently offer.

Any Jr. High English teacher would refuse to accept a study with no verifiable data.
Even asking a paltry few people, there should still have been some quotes included. Or how about the form or presentation material of the survey?
Details make a great story, and a lack of them proves a story like this false.
