Default So how much hp will you buy in 2010?

Just what everyone has been asking for, another thread about mileage. But lets take this a bit further. Most of us have a pretty good idea what is out there and the benefits and drawbacks of all of them. Unless you have the personal reality distortion field turned up to 11 you know how much gas is, you know how much you drive, you know how much you make, etc. But let's polish up the crystal *****.

I am not that crazy about the higher mileage alternatives out there right now. And, in truth, I don't see very many vehicles offering much of a bump in mileage relative to vehicle costs to justify trading in right now. But let's look out to 2010. Calendar year, not necessarily model year. Make your own assumptions about the cost of fuel, state of technology, personal situation, and make a guess in this one simple area. How much hp do you figure the vehicle you will buy will have in the 2010 and maybe post 2010 time frame? I know that without specifying vehicle I leave myself open to the inevitable posts about vehicle type but let's just put two restrictions on it. One, it will be a new car purchase. Don't bother posting that you are just going to drive your Hudson Hornet until the wheels fall off because your only operating cost is gas. Second, this isn't a hangar queen. By that I mean don't bother voting based on the fact that by 2010 you will be out of middle school and will be sporting the Veyron you just dream about now. This should be whatever you think you are going to be using for a daily driver. Only modification would be for families/couples. For my wife and I, we might have one bigger sedan and one smaller mileage champ - but I don't know exactly how to accomodate that in the poll.

So here the choices may not be random but not quite overthought either. I didn't want to get into having to decide if there was going to be some 336hp-85mpg atomic powered nanoLambo in that time frame and I wanted to keep the choices simple.

I'm going to buy whatever car that can keep up/beat my current car in 0-60.

doesn't matter new or used...

Our first Hudson Hornet vote! I bet you're just going to make us wait to see how much you know about cars to figure out what hp will give you that quicker 0-60 time.

I said less than 250 as I'd like to own a WRX next, though it doesn't seem wise. However, I would be willing to buy a Lexus hybrid with more than 250...oh if I had the money of course.

I chose 325 to 400 as an LS460 is going to be my next car, and ill probably be keeping that car for a while. Gas prices won't affect me that much until it hits 20 bucks a gallon...

don't give a crap about gas mileage, if i can afford a 400hp+ car, gas is the last thing on my mind

400+ for sure..... if it's affordable to me, of course...

I honestly have no idea. It will be over 200HP though as I'm a believer that todays traffic speed you need at least 200 HP. If I had to guess I'd say between 250 and 330HP V6. That is for the general family car. If it were a car all for myself I't probably only have 270HP as I know which car I want to buy again

i chose 250 and 325. this is because im hoping lexus will create a dedicated hybrid with about 250 horses...enough to keep up with traffic but also help the environment and gas a bit.

My vote is for 400+. There are a few cars on the horizon that I would love to get next, new or used, but they all have more then 400. Gas is not a super big deal, as I commute on publc transportation during the week, but weekends are for fun and smarts and prius' don't do that.

I'll still have my 350 in 2010 and the foreseeable future

Hmmm. Lets see. What would be cooler to ride into work...a horse, or a moped?
