Lexus Dealer NAV install....
Does anyone know why the Lexus dealership won't install their stock navigation system on the IS or any model Lexus vehicle? This is kind of odd because you would thing they would be happy to do it since it's "their" nav system installed on "their" brand automobiles.
I regret not getting one from the start and I would like to have one put in. Wouldn't they just have to replace the entire center dash console and rewire? They can do it, can't they?

I would think anything like this is very cost prohibitive.... super high cost of the OEM system itself, along with high labor costs. I don't think I've heard of any one like Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, etc installing a factory OEM Nav system after the fact.
It's a big procedure, a lot could go wrong with fitment etc, after which case you, as the consumer spending that much money wouldn't be happy.

The stock unit is like $3,000 I'm guessing? Add another thousand for labor and it's like 4 grand for a nice Nav system. I'd be willing to pay that price since there are no aftermarket "in-dash" Nav system available for the 07 Lexus IS.

it can be done and has been done.....by individuals, not by dealers.
do a search over in the 2IS forum.

IMO, the NAV in the 2IS looks real nice, but I was unhappy with it (functionality, maps, etc).

The Lexus nav system is OK, but it is at least one generation behind what is available from Garmin and other "aftermarket" units. What's more, it's going to become even more dated with every passing month. Many "portable" navs can be updated via the internet to keep their map and POI databases current, and in some cases update the OS. Try that with your $1800 option.
Yes, you can install a complete Lexus nav in your present car, but look forward to a LOT of time and expense. It would be considerably cheaper to trade the car.

Then you will have to pay for installation, which will take hours (at about $80 an hour for dealer labor).
Not only that, you need to wire the Nav system to the shifter (so the doors lock when you go into Drive), install a reverse camera (if you want it, which can cost hundreds of dollars), install the antenna (not included with the replacement Nav screen), wire it so that it illuminates differently between day and night, etc, etc, etc...
Therefore, factory installed nav is $2500.
Dealer installed nav is $10,000, give or take a few thousand dollars...

to be honest, best way is just trade in your car for another. like some said, it's been done before on used cars with used parts and that still cost arm and leg. it's not easy at all, with all the harnesses change and parts and labor
part of the reason why when i get a car, i try to go fully loaded
