if what you wanted was a 4 door sports car, why would you buy a maxima over a g35?

G35 is smaller? and it's an Infiniti? The Maxima is larger and probably doesn't have the insurance and maintenance cost of an Infiniti (just a guess..comparing an Avalon to an ES350 in terms of insurance and maintenance)

If you're going to compare the Max to a G35, then why not compare it to the CTS, BMW 3, IS350, C350, etc etc etc... The two cars will not be cross shopped heavily. Over 80% of Infiniti G35 owners are: 1) male 2) big into hp 3) want a luxury marqee. Thats from Infiniti's own marketing research.

The max will compete with the FWD wannabe sporty family sedans such as the Accord, Camry, Avalon, Mazda 6, Altima, Buick, and anything in the boring large-mid size family sedan category.

BTW, the ONLY car in the g35 class thats sportier is the 3 series. The rough suspension alone should differentiate the core g35 buyers from the core maxima buyers.

The design/styling is very nice, I think it'll look phenomenal in white, and I'm glad they "tailored" it in a way that counts: shortening the wheelbase/overall length, and increasing the track.

What interests me most, however, is the 3.0L V6 diesel that will be available for MY2010. If Nissan can get that thing into the Maxima without horrendous torque steer and a price right at $30K, I will be giving it a VERY serious look and very serious props.

I lost interest in the Maxima after this new body style with the bigger body...

I think the old body style that was a bit smaller was much more attractive..

This redesigned model is smaller than the outgoing one.

I know that its a bit smaller, but has the similar shape that is more rounded then the 01 models...I dnno I prefer the older sleeker body lines.

As an owner of two Maximas in the past (a 1991 SE and a 2000 GLE) I gave up on them because they had grown too big for my tastes. I loved my 2000 but gave it up because the lease was up. And making a smaller Maxima again would put them in direct competition the popular Altima. Furthermore, if they add too many features to distinguish them from Altimas, they’re then in competition with Infiniti G’s or M’s, Nissan’s own luxury brand. I really don’t have a solution. It seems to be a car that no longer has a market.

In my case I planned to buy a G35 sedan (in 2004) to replace the Maxima, but my kids talked me into a G35 coupe. That proved to be a good move. Now I’m in a similar G37 coupe.

Not bad at all, in those photos IMHO. Looks Infiniti M-like from certain side and rear angles.
