Default 2009 Cadillac CTS-V

We thought Bentley's announcement earlier today that it's adding a Speed model to the Continental Flying Spur lineup was exciting news for sedan fans. After all, a 600bhp saloon that can hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reach 200 MPH is pretty exciting, no? Not really when compared to Cadillac's news that the 2009 CTS-V will officially be rated at 556 horsepower, hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and run the quarter mile in 12 seconds flat. No offense to Bentley, but a sub-3-second sedan is about as exciting as it can get on a Monday. For the record, the Edmunds' Straightline Blog reports that the sport sedan's 6.2L supercharged V8 will produce 556 hp at 6,100 rpm and 551 pound-feet of torque at 3,800 rpm. That engine is the LSA, derived from the new Corvette ZR1's LS9 motor and detuned for duty in the CTS-V. Fortunately, the LSA wasn't detuned too much and the '09 CTS-V should destroy its German competition, specifically the BMW M5 with its - can't believe we're saying this - relatively meager 500-hp 5.0L V10.

Whoa!

Thumbs up CTS-V's official power/performance numbers are in

556hp, 551tq, and of course there's a good chance a smaller pulley will be the first thing out for the aftermarket to get that number well into the 6__ and even possibly 7__ range.

0-60 in 3.9 seconds (I guess wheel hop is no longer an issue!) and the quarter mile in 12 seconds flat (I betcha we'll see a high 11 out of this from the magazines the moment the press embargo lifts).

Top speed of 191 with the manual trans. The auto trans is significantly lower in top speed... so much so that it makes me think its gearing must not be conducive to top speed runs, or it's electronically limited based on tire speed/selection.

WOW just WOW! A bargain for 60k. Some should have waited for Caddy to join the enthusiast super sedan party.

Not that it really matters much anyway... if you can afford this car you can afford the gas and obviously aren't too worried about conservationism anyway.

Hmmmm. 60K to do 0-60 in 3.9 sec and sit in traffic getting maybe 12 mpg? I think I can live without it.

Whatever the EPA numbers come in on this car, my guess is real world you will be lucky to do over 15mpg.

And, as usual, I could afford that car, but I choose not to because of its mileage numbers. For those who want to feed a hot rod Caddy, be my guest.

Possible. Also possible that in the real world you'd be lucky to do over 17mpg in an IS-F.

If it's not your style (hot rod caddy) then I certainly understand. But to be critical of its mileage given what it is, doesn't make much sense to me... unless you also want to be critical of cars like the M5, E63, potential GS-F, etc.
