Lexus IS Coupe / IS Hatch
Prototypes of the upcoming Lexus IS coupe-cabrio have been spotted testing in recent months, and in April it was revealed that Toyota had registered a number of new names for the forthcoming model range with U.S. and Canadian patent and trademark offices. However, given the success of the new IS, Lexus is likely to add even more variants including a new sporty new hatchback.
This latest rendering gives us a preview of what a future IS hatch could look like, showing a traditional sporty two-door hatch body with the familiar face of the IS sedan attached.
Although Lexus is yet to confirm the development of a hatch, there were previous reports claiming a new entry-level model priced below $30,000 was in the works. This car is unlikely to be launched in North America but in Europe the car could go up against strong sellers like the BMW 1-series and Audi A3.
The new IS coupe-cabrio, meanwhile, is expected to be revealed at next year’s Detroit Auto Show and should go on sale in the first half of next year. The car will feature a new folding hard top roof and the specification levels should mirror the sedan range.
