Post Edmunds Comparo: 09' Audi A4 3.2 Quattro vs. 08' Mercedes-Benz C350

1. 2009 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro - A wide range of available equipment and a borad range of dynamic talents propel the newly invigorated A4 into the top spot.

2. 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350 - Anvil like solidity reminiscent of Benzes of yore, but not the strongest value-for-dollar play.

What's the point of this comparo?

To find out the slowest between the two slowest (relatively speaking of course) top trim entry level luxury sports sedans in its class?

All the '09 350 models will be getting that 300 hp engine.

I don't get why they put the old 3.5 in there in the first place. I guess it's like what Lexus did with the 3GS and BMW with the current 3 series.

I guess they all figure they can sell a lot the first year just with the new design alone, & then keep sales up with the upgraded engines for subsequent years ...

Audi is seriously falling behind the pack with its 3.2L engine.

Good you added the "relatively speaking of course". Virtually none of the buyers will ever use, or need, the full performance of the Audi A4 3.2 Quattro, even most of us in the CL-crowd.

If I were an 08 C350 owner, I would be pissed at that news unless the price is considerably higher on the 09's.

^^ It seems to be pretty common practice now. The GS, the 3 series, and the G sedan have done it. I'd be wary of buying a new model in the first year now due to what seems to be inevitable engine changes

Talk about the '06 330i owners... So glad that I choose IS350 over that.

I really like the new A4. You can definitely see how much bigger the new model is in person.

Looks awesome in white. Nice touch with the RS4 wheels.

Am I the only one who thinks the current C350 isn't underpowered? It's only "underpowered" on paper compared to the competition but it's also faster than the more powerful Cadillac CTS. The 7Gtronic automatic transmission makes up for the "lack of horsepower" although the '350 is a very torquey engine too. Torque is essential for spirited acceleration.
