Generally I'm with you. In my book, you've got the right idea.

And I'm sure you know this, RON, as an engineer, but Premuim "recommended" means that, with a stock factory engine, you should run premium whenever possible, but, say, if you are stuck south of the border with crappy gas or otherwise can't get 91-93 octane, running 87 octane or junk Mexican gas will suffice for short periods of time. But, clearly, the engine is not meant for a steady diet of it.....the computer will keep retarding the spark more and more until it stops detonating, but, even aside from the question of octane and detonation resistance, regular and premuim grades often have different vapor pressures that can make the car harder to start and otherwise affect drivability.

Exclamation

ok, first of all, im a freshman, im 18, so i dont buy beer, i bum it off whoevers house im at, i hardly spend any money on beer at all, so shut up about the beer already, this is a car forum, not a "im jealous because i cant party anymore" thread, and i dont drink coffee, its gross, and i dont go out on dates, i go to parties.

second off, when im AT school i ride my mountain bike everywhere (i go to school in New Orleans) im home in Georgia now (its summer)

so thank you very much to all the people who actually answered my question, i didnt ask for budget advise, i asked what would happen if i didnt use premium

as for all you guys who were total douche bags in your responses, i thought that clublexus was a brotherhood of Lexus owners that supported each other and shared knowledge with each other, not a way to dis young guys like me who occasionally asks what might be a dumb question.
