I love how the vehicle costs and estimated MPG graphs are almost prefect inverses of each other.

One of my all time favorites too. The 850 has that luxury sport, psuedo exotic, understated classy look. I almost bought a used one but after reading the service history decided against it. You'd be crazy to get one, unless you have a bankroll set aside for maintenance and repairs.

I did some calculating the 850 CSI in todays dollars would be like $162k USD or something.

I found a used one for about $65k USD.

Styling reminds me a bit of the Mk3 supra and a little bit like the 1968 Dodge Charger.

Good looking car, but heavy and the v12 was apparently not very reliable.

Just want to bring up something I noticed ...

Back then the SC400 with only a V8 and about 1/3 of the price of the 850 CSi was spanking it in almost every category except 1/4 mile times ... I never knew the SC was such a great performer compared to the other lux. coupes of the day ... Nice

Except the engine management on early 1UZ was terrible. Most, if not all, early LS/SC400 on the road are twice slower than they should be, because their ECUs are shot.

german cars with big engines and that are /were heavy are awesome. I mean, not neccessiraly(s/p) im a bad speller)sports cars, but grand tourers. I mean pounding up and down the autobahn back in the day. I would drive only 4 cars. This, the 560 sec, the 560 sel, and the bmw 750 il. All of em were beasts and i think the reason the main reason not many were bought was ecause price, ut not only that, i think americans were looking at this as a sports car, and while it was a decent entry as opne, i would look at it more of a gt car

I miss the old Teutonic designs. Bimmers look too much like Hondas these days, I can't tell an Accord apart from a 7 or 6 Series...

850 = hunk of junk.

Pretty to look at, can't keep them running to save your life.
