Seems to me that the Malibu suffered greatly due to a lack of performance-oriented dynamics. Even the fuel mileage according to MT was primarily hurt because it was driven during the test much harder than in the real world.
Thus this test would indicate that for performance-minded drivers, a 4-cyl Malibu is a worse choice than many of those other 4-cyl mid sized sedans.
However I do have to wonder how many performance-minded drivers will be buying a 4-cyl mid sized sedan in the first place.
I'd be more interested in reading a review focused on value, comfort, quality, and mileage during more normal driving. Those would be my priorities if I were to buy that sort of car.

exactly... and yet they claim they'll say "but most buyers are looking for a combination of value, practicality, fuel efficiency etc etc"... well then why don't you choose the vehicle that does so?
