The new trend with companies advertising in their commercials on tv and radio and they say "31 MPG" instead of miles per gallon.
For some reason this urks me to death. Why can't you just say "miles per gallon"
I'll tell you why. For the same reason that most of us say "HP" for horsepower, "PSI" for tire pressure, "MPH", for miles per hour, "MT" for manual transmission, and "AT" for automatic transmission, not to mention a thousand other commonly used automotive abbreviations.......too many to list here.

I do not do this. It's lazy......... I might type it, but saying it aloud is another thing. SPEAK,...... we developed language to use it.
