Question Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG ??

That's the craziest web site title (bar title)... why does Porsche refer to itself that way?

http://www.porsche.com/usa/

That's just the original name of the company started by Ferdinand Porsche - usually shortened to Porsche AG.

The "Dr. Ing" just means Doctor of Engineering.

Dr. means he is a doctor

He has a phD degree, he also received another honorary phD in engineering from Vienna University of Tech that gives him the title of Dr Ing(engineering) h. c. The translation of which I looked up on wiki is "Doktor Ingenieur Honoris Causa"

F is his first name Ferdinand.

Thanks for the explanation.

I think "Porsche - there is no substitute" would be a better title.

He was arrested for war crimes because he had a hand in designing and production of some of the German's army equipments like the Panzer and Tiger tanks. He was also a personal friend of Hitler which I think is the main contribution.

Hell Mitsubishi made Zero's for Japan and I wonder if any of them got charged with war crimes too.

If America lose in a new world war, the CEO of Lockheed Martin and General Motors would be in deep **** for producing those rockets and Humvee's.

yes, but i dont see the name of said war criminals at any of the japanese automaker's website. anyway, im not saying its bad. its just pure marketing. theres nothing at the cadillac website talking about their heritage. even at ford's website, that information is buried inside with only henry ford being mentioned about something not relating directly to cars.

.
You sure about that? From what I have read he despised Hitler but did accept his funds as his passion was in cars and this allowed him to pursue that.

I read that as well, but I also read that due to both their passion for mechanized things such as cars, they became some what of good friends and thats why the reins to Volkswagen was handed to Porsche... and a bit later Porsche felt hurt that Hitler did not also pass the design and production of the Panzer and Tiger to him, I think only the King Tiger tank was given to Porsche to design..
