Crazy Dealer Markup on Hybrids

Crazy Dealer Markup on Hybrids
I drove by Manhattan Beach Toyota today and a used 2005 Prius made me scream OMFG. Why? Because with over 45,000 miles on it the dealer is asking $32,991! Apparently that's not the only one, when I went to the website to check out its used car inventory I found out there are 13 pre-owned Prius and none of them has a sticker price less than $27k.
Here's the link to it: http://www.manhattanbeachtoyota.com/pre-owned.htm
If you are done screaming here's something that's even more amazing: A brand spanking new Prius has a MSRP starting at $22,168 and topping out at $28,605. Yet, now the dealers are selling used ones with more than 20k miles on for around 30 grands to the poor panicking folks due to record high gas price.
This truly is free economy working at its best...

ohoooo yes they can.
High Demand + Low Supply = Dealer Markup
not sure what the going rate on a new Prius is these days, but if it's in demand, the dealership can and will markup the car.

Thank goodness I don't care about gas prices because I hate marked up cars!

markup destroys the purpose of buying these cars.
what you save on gas is fully blown on a markup.
there's no shortage of priuses.
and it gets worse mileage than a BMW M3.

That's where negotiation power comes into play. Now who is seriously going to buy that Prius at sticker...no one. Most consumers today are savvy with pricing and deals. Dealerships need to make profit too, especially in these slow times. Give them a break. It is a free enterprise. But lets see how long that Prius sits on their lot with that price.

might be justified, if the dealer's used Priuses (Priui??) have the CA HOV lane sticker NPR did a study and found that adds $4000 of value to any Hybrid, considering you can drive in the toll roads for free AND use the carpool lanes in So Cal that is a huge benefit. You can no longer get HOV stickers, they are all gone and have been for a long time so no more supply. Supra TT's and Prius w/HOV's would have been no brianer buys,
Secret is in 2011 those HOV stickers will be worthless from what I understand you can no longer use the HOV lanes or drive on the toll roads for free.
