June 2008 Vehicle Sales

What are you basing this on? Did Toyota state they are limiting fleets for this gen corolla? I dont see why Toyota would do this, especially since car rental companies LOVES the corolla. Cheap, reliable, and fuel efficient. If the corolla's price goes up, then we may see a decrease in fleet numbers. Historically, the Corolla's fleet sales has been around 12-15% of the total's sale. I dont see this gen any different. Toyota KNOWS that gas price is a big influence in today's subcompact market. They'd be dumb to slow down on fleet sales.

Toyota Breaking Every Sales Record in Australia
Toyota reports all-time record sales
1 Jul, 2008
Toyota has broken an all-time industry record this month, becoming the first car company in Australia to sell in excess of 25,000 vehicles in a single month.
Sales figures released today reveal that Toyota sold more than 25,600 cars for the month of June, breaking its own record of 24,539 which it set 12 months ago.
It’s strongest performer was the Corolla with more than 5000 sales, closely followed by the HiLux which contributed just over 4500 to the overall total.
With the financial year ending just yesterday, Toyota also announced that it has sold more than 247,500 vehicles for the fiscal year - also an all-time industry record.
No other brand has ever sold more than 200,000 vehicles in any 12-month period in Australia.

The TSX set a new record for itself after the 2nd month of sale. I dont think 08s sales have much to do with it. Most dealers stopped stocking up on tsx back in January. There are still 08s out there, but they do not make up the majority of the TSX sold. That's like saying the Corolla's record was set because of the 08s on the lot.

Where did you find this? The Solara (called the Camry Solara only on the Toyota website and marketing pieces) counts towards Camry sales (event though it does not have one Camry badge on it), but the Matrix? I know it is based on the Corolla but I've never heard it called the Corolla Matrix...

I was shopping for one a couple of years ago and don't recall ever seeing it referred to as a Corolla.

When the first gen Matrix came out, Toyota clearly marketed it as "Corolla Matirix" in many of it's ads. I remember quite well.
I don't agree with the way Toyota couples sales numbers.
They do this with three vehicle groups:
Corolla/Matrix
Camry/Solara
Yaris Liftback / Yaris Sedan (two very different cars with the same name)
Neither of these groups share a single body panel, headlight/taillight, ect. and really no resemblance at all but they count as ONE in the sales figures.
In fact, in other countries, the Yaris models are marketed as different models with different names. "Vitz" (liftback) and "Belta" (sedan). Even the interiors are different.
Every automaker shares platforms and engines for numerous models with greater similarities but they are seperate units with seperate sales. GM, Ford, and Chrysler often offer 3 or 4 models that are almost identical and give them all different make and model names.
