Default Camry closes in no.1 ranking for full year sales!!

With all the hype with the Civic beating everything last month I wanted to throw this into the mix. Lets not forget the Camry!!

The Toyota Camry is likely to beat the Ford F series from the number one ranking for the full year!! We are at the half way point and the F series only leads the no. 2 Camry by only 34,832 units.

Ford is loosing an average of 13,500 sales a month while Camry sales are holding steady with last year's. At this rate Ford's lead will not last long.

6 months 2008 sales

1) F series 274,713
2) Camry 239,881
3) Silverado 231,320
4) Accord 205,862
5) Civic 204,961
6) Corolla 194,488
7) Altima 158,006
8) Impala 138,952
9) Ram 128,944
10) Focus 123,449

But if civic is winning month over month then it could catch up to Camry.

I get the feeling that the average joe thinks the Camry is more of a fuel-sipper than it really is. Granted it's not shabby in hybrid form but in 4-cyl form it's really nothing special. In fact my parents have gotten very poor economy out of their 2005 XLE 4-cyl model and the dealership just tells them it varies by driver despite their insistence that they drive very conservatively and always get better than the rated mileage out of all their other vehicles.

Nope.

Civic sold 42,677 unless for some reason you have decided to exclude the hybrid model, in which case your number for Camry would be reduced as well as that number includes hybrid sales.

Question Civic

Anyone who follows car sales should know that the Civic is nowhere near the annual sales of the Camry - it just got the distinction of being the 1st car in like 18 years to outsell the F-series last month. I wonder if Ford will make a 4 cylinder variant for those w/ only light duty needs ...

I am confused by the Civic sales tho - I always assumed that Honda included the hybrids in the total #s but then divided out the hybrids just for stat display purposes. So the Civic sold a total of 39,967 last month of which 2,710 were hybrids.

According to Threxx, however, it appears that they are 2 separate totals on the report & one has to add them together to get the Civic's total? In other words, Honda sold 39,967 regular Civics and in addition sold 2,710 hybrids totalling 42,677.

From the chart you posted, you can see that if you add up all the subtotals excluding hybrid sales, then the total will equal the "Honda Division Total". If you add in hybrid sales then the total will be more than the "Honda Division Total" so it is safe to say that the hybrid sales are already included for Accord and Civic sales but are shown separately in the chart for information purposes only. The bottom line is Civics sold only 39,967 units in June and this number includes hybrid sales so the Corolla beat out Civics and Accords in sales last month. Good job Toyota!

Corolla also includes the "Corolla Matrix" as it is legally named.

Toyota needs a corolla hybrid to help fight off sales of the civic. But its still amazing to see that the civic comes in more variations but corolla is selling more.

Funny - when I look at the back of an Accord coupe, it says Accord. But when I look at the back of a Matrix and/or Solara, I just don't see the Corolla and/or Camry badging.....

Of course this has already been discussed ad nauseum....Toyota's Marketing Department Rules!

And unless the sales lead dramatically widens each month, at current rates (where the Camry is outselling the ford by 3-4K per month), then the F150 will not lose its sales crown this year....

*edit, unless of course they rename the Prius the Camry Prius on the website.....

Wrong. The Civic in June sold 39,967 units which *includes* Civic Hybrid sales. You read Honda's sales report incorrectly, although to be fair the sales report Honda provides is somewhat confusing.

When I look at the back of an "Acura CSX" I don't see a Honda symbol, or any Civic badging even though I know it's just a rebadged Civic.

The Civic includes sedan, coupe, AND hybrid sales. The Corolla includes only sedan and hatch (Matrix sales). We KNOW the Matrix is just a Corolla hatch. What if the Civic Si never had Civic badging, but only Si badging? According to your logic, would the Si have to be counted separately then?

Fact is, Corolla was #1 in sales in the US for the month of June.

The main reason why there isn't a Corolla hybrid is because Toyota has the Prius which sells at the same price as the Civic hybrid. Actually, they are the only competitor to one another. Also, Toyota can't get enough batteries from it's supplier just to satisfy Prius, Camry h, Highlander h, ect. Otherwise, Toyota WOULD be able to build enough Prius's and there wouldn't be a 6 month waiting list.
