1936 Mercedes-Benz 500K "Spezial Roadster"
When I saw this car at the Mercedes-Benz Museum my jaw literally hit the floor, my heart skipped a couple of beats and my mind was simply stumped. I was in awe. Trust me, when you see this car up close and personal you will react the same, regardless if you're a Mercedes fan or not.
The interesting thing about this car is the inline-8 engine. When the Kompressor is not engaged it is good for 100-horsepower, but when the driver presses the accelerator past a certain pressure point, the Kompressor is activated and then the engine pumps out 160-horsepower. I found this very interesting.

About four years ago one privately owned example sold for about $1.5 million in the UK. I believe the specialized dealership that sold it was the infamous Coys of Kensington.
I did some google searches and it appears only about 7 to 25 (can't get an exact figure) of these "artworks" have survived from a total production run of less than 400.
