Default Lexus salesman and job security

Recently I leased a '09 RX 350 AWD for the wife and a week later my salesman was fired.
I purchased my '08 GS and that salesman on that deal was also fired.
I may have to warn my next Lexus salesman when I'm ready for another lease or purchase.

Oh and the finance guy was fired too.

I did alright on both deals.
I believe a salesman always needs the approval of the sales manager on a deal.
I guess even with Lexus, there's a revolving door for sales people.

you don't meet the quota, you're out. isn't that how sales works?

Strange, all the Lexus salesmen I've dealt with have generally started with the beginning of the brand, and are usually the salesleaders for their dealership. We've bought multiple from him. Always great to work with the same person.

One positive was the sales guy I bought the IS from is now a sales manager that handled my deals.
I buy at TriCounty Lexus in NJ and they dumped the General Manager, finance guy,4 salesman and probably others in the last 6 weeks or so.

The car business is having a rough time right now (understatement of the year). I don't think I'd want to be a car salesman in this economy, especially at a GMC dealership (where large trucks and SUV's are all they sell)!

It's unfortunately but senior management sometimes points the finger towards sales people for not making numbers. To help them save face they make changes and bring in different sales people to try to fix the problem. They don't want to admit that it is the economy or that you really can't fix it by swapping out your sales team.

This is how it works in the dealership.

Sales man makes the deal > sends customer quota to the manager where they work out the numbers and NEVER tell you, even though they're all the same > they send you to the finance guy who doesn't like you at all and just wants his money > if you win, you get the car/lose, bye bye > you get the car big whoop.

I don't know if its still true during this time. A good friend of mine works at a Lamborghini dealership and he said even them are affected by the slow economy.

Any sales person is only as good as his/her last quarter. If you don't make at least 80% of quota, you're expecting to leave pretty quickly.

BTW, bad economy is an excuse. People are still buying stuff. Every conversation with a sales person and a prospect ends up in a deal. Either the sales person closes the deal or the prospect sell the sales person on how they can't buy. No good sales person lets excuses get in the way of closing a deal. If you truly are uninterested in buying, what are you doing on the sales floor?

Its rare for a salesman at a luxury dealer to be fired as for the most part at Lexus, BMW, Benz, the cars sell themselves. We all have experience with salesman that don't know squat about cars.

What Lexus IS serious about is customer service and if people fail those reports, they are more apt to being fired for that than NOT meeting sales.

You sure they got fired? Guys move around from one luxury dealer to the next many times. You don't just get hired as a luxury car salesman, you have to have credentials or you "know" someone.

Lexus sales are down but no mass firings I've heard.

Moved to car chat.

My guy was gone 2 weeks after I purchased my IS... in fact, when I told I was a sales director, he started asking if I was hiring and sent me an email every other day during the two weeks until they stopped...
