Porsche's unveiling of the 2009 911 Carrera also came with the introduction of the new PDK seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox. It can shift 60-percent faster than the Tiptronic system, and reportedly helps the 911 S lap the Nurburgring eight seconds faster than the six-speed variant. Porsche has released a video explaining more about how the PDK works, showing off the dual wet clutches that are simultaneously connected to two gears so that when gear is engaged the next gear has been selected, essentially providing instantaneous shifts. Follow the jump to watch the PDK gear box in action and learn more about how the dual clutch system works.

Default Not Impressed

This seems like VWs DSG has made it's way to more powerful engines.

I think they could have taken a couple of points out of this review at 5th gear. Much better explanation and you can actually hear how quick the gear changes are.

1:20 minutes into review.

In the Porsche video, when the guy mumbles what the 'DK' stands for, I just chuckled - marketing went over the line to pure b.s.

"Porsche doblobby-klophovshnitz" ??

But DSG is the single best transmission advance in the past century.

Porsche Doppel Kupplungen

or in english; Porsche Double Clutches

i thought porsche has been working on this even before they bought majority stake in VW?
or maybe i mixed up the time in my head

anyways any porsche purists will NOT want any of this ultra smooth and fast + "ergonomic" shifter business
manual for true Porsche fans!
