Thats great that you can afford to have terrible gas mileage. I laud your success. However, despite increasing fuel efficieny of automobiles over the years, offenders like the Hummer, Tahoe, Land Cruiser, etc. has only increased demand of oil when it should have decreased. And that affects everyone.
Haha, I'll think you're cool when you are in a GS450h and your vanity plate reads: "I could afford to waste fuel, but Im not"

Why? Because everyone should live your life? Everyone should own a Yaris or a Prius? Some people don't want a tiny car. And, being that this is America, that's their right.
My car gets terrible gas mileage. Not only do I not care, I advertise my lousy gas mileage on my vanity plate. Love seeing a Prius in the rear view mirror and seeing them read my license plate! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
And those that get the joke think it's very funny! But, there are those that don't. Or those that take like WAAAAY too seriously.

1/3 isn't that difficult really. I just cut mine by 1/2 and all I had was a 2-door coupe before (not even a truck or SUV).

Your argument is flawed. “Offenders like the Hummer, Tahoe, Land Cruiser, ect…,” are not the reason why the demand for oil has increased. The emerging markets in both China, and India have a lot more to do with the increase in the cost of oil then virtually anything else. I can not believe that your really going to try and guilt someone into believing that they should buy a hybrid because it is their responsibility to the rest of society. The savings alone between the GS350 I drive (which get’s 27mph on the highway, by the way) and the GS450h can buy a whole lot of gas for virtually no increase in fuel economy between the two models. I am not trying to rant, but you really are misinformed. ![Thumb Down](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsdown.gif)

In 2007, the U.S. imported a total of 3.66 billion barrels of oil. Of those 3.66 billion barrles, the U.S. imported from a total of 46 different countries. The top 5 importing countries were: Canada (18.61%), Saudi Arabia (14.50%), Mexico (14.07%), Venezuela (11.48%), and Nigeria (10.80%), for a total of 69.47% of all American imports.
Oil is perhaps the most critical source of energy worldwide. Overall consumption is on the rise as more and more of the world industrialize and start utilizing modern machines. The United States is the largest consumer of oil and consumes over 25% of the world's oil! Here are the top oil consuming nations as provided by the CIA World Factbook (2007 estimates); the values represent the number of barrels consumed per day.

Meh, according to EPA tests a Prius with its A/C on gets 45 MPG going 80 MPH. I get 32 MPG going 70 MPH. I'm sorry to say, but I think those fuel efficient vehicles still got me beat.

...also people seem to forget a VERY important factor:
Does your gas contain Ethanol or not? All of NY does and gas is around $4.65/gal for 93 (premium). BTW this 10% Ethanol mixed gas (gasohol) reduces gas mileage by 2mpg as noted in many sources. So for the citizens that do have ONLY Ethanol mixed gas AND high(est) gas prices we get hit twice as hard because we pay the most for the least amount of distance able to be travelled. I wouldn't mind as much paying the $4.65/gal for 93 if it was straight gasoline; at least I can drive more between fill-ups. It's funny because I NEVER understood before how some of you guys get 18-20mpg on your GS4XX's until now...some of you must still (luckily, but probably not for long) get straight gasoline.

What really matters is mpg, or $/mile. Of course, I'm sure the Hummer gets dismal mpg numbers, but that's a whole different story

I'm all for the right to choose any vehicle that one wants. Just saying that Hummer owners (and owners of other tanks) deserve to see those numbers at the gas tank. And apparently they don't care. However, it does affect gas prices for all of us the more each person uses. Imagine cutting our world consumption by 1/3 if everyone on average simply bought a vehicle that got 1/3 better fuel mileage? How much do you think gas would be today?
1/3 isn't that difficult really. I just cut mine by 1/2 and all I had was a 2-door coupe before (not even a truck or SUV).
