Your argument is flawed. “Offenders like the Hummer, Tahoe, Land Cruiser, ect…,” are not the reason why the demand for oil has increased. The emerging markets in both China, and India have a lot more to do with the increase in the cost of oil then virtually anything else. I can not believe that your really going to try and guilt someone into believing that they should buy a hybrid because it is their responsibility to the rest of society. The savings alone between the GS350 I drive (which get’s 27mph on the highway, by the way) and the GS450h can buy a whole lot of gas for virtually no increase in fuel economy between the two models. I am not trying to rant, but you really are misinformed.

I'm all for the right to choose any vehicle that one wants. Just saying that Hummer owners (and owners of other tanks) deserve to see those numbers at the gas tank. And apparently they don't care. However, it does affect gas prices for all of us the more each person uses. Imagine cutting our world consumption by 1/3 if everyone on average simply bought a vehicle that got 1/3 better fuel mileage? How much do you think gas would be today?

1/3 isn't that difficult really. I just cut mine by 1/2 and all I had was a 2-door coupe before (not even a truck or SUV).

My Range Rover gets similar numbers, usually $100+ per fill up. I really don't mind it though as it has a big tank and gets good range.

I take pics of all the supposedly fuel efficient Hondas and Prius's that PASS ME in the FAST LANE on the highway. People can be so FOS, bragging about their fuel economy but then blowing it going 85 on the highway.

Meh, according to EPA tests a Prius with its A/C on gets 45 MPG going 80 MPH. I get 32 MPG going 70 MPH. I'm sorry to say, but I think those fuel efficient vehicles still got me beat.

If I had a hybrid, I'd probably just drive the same as I drive now (80-85) but just get better gas mileage.

...also people seem to forget a VERY important factor:

Does your gas contain Ethanol or not? All of NY does and gas is around $4.65/gal for 93 (premium). BTW this 10% Ethanol mixed gas (gasohol) reduces gas mileage by 2mpg as noted in many sources. So for the citizens that do have ONLY Ethanol mixed gas AND high(est) gas prices we get hit twice as hard because we pay the most for the least amount of distance able to be travelled. I wouldn't mind as much paying the $4.65/gal for 93 if it was straight gasoline; at least I can drive more between fill-ups. It's funny because I NEVER understood before how some of you guys get 18-20mpg on your GS4XX's until now...some of you must still (luckily, but probably not for long) get straight gasoline.

Exactly, who cares how much it costs to fill up a car? A 33 gallon tank is HUGE, that's more than twice the size of an average tank, of course it's going to cost a lot to fill up. Even at 12mpg, that's about 400miles you can drive on one tank, at 15mpg you can drive nearly 500miles

What really matters is mpg, or $/mile. Of course, I'm sure the Hummer gets dismal mpg numbers, but that's a whole different story

How about just cutting the usage by 1/3? Our SUV, current Tahoe, previous GX averaged 8000 miles a year. I live 5 miles from work, my neighbor drove like 45 miles to work every day with his Civic, he probably put 30,000+ miles a year on that car but i'm the bad guy for having a big SUV. Can I load up your hybrid with 4 search and rescuers with gear and drive up an old logging road? How about 3 adults, 3 kids and 3 hockey bags and 6 sticks, can I get my family of 4, my 2 dogs in your vehicle and tow a boat?
