And lets not forget that gas has quadrupled in price in that short time period as well.

So I guess all the rumors of a BMW 8AT were false.

there's a much shorter distance between the turbos and the inlet manifold
I wounder what that will do to the reliability and life of the turbo. I would not expect maintenance cost will be lower if you jam things in less space.

You'll have to work very hard to find an S600 owner who bought their S600 in order to smoke Ferraris or Porsches at the stoplight (those people don't even go for the S65 AMG). Most of these cars are also chauffeur driven, especially an S600.
Typical stereotype - you might as easily say that all LS buyers are 55+ year olds seeking nothing more than a motorized sofa... There are many S600 owners (both current w221 and previous w220) who bought for the V12 TT's performance - I was one of them. There is nothing like a perfectly balanced/ultra-smooth classical V12 that combined with all the luxury comforts of a S-Class/LS/7-Series league sedan, provides a completely unique driving experience. You can have both luxury and super performance! The reality is that a fully specified S550 (Including Designo to compare with the all leather S600) is only roughly $20K short of a 100% optioned S600. When you are already north of $100K that smaller delta for the performance of a TT V12 can be compelling. (Unlike the S65 which is excessively more expensive)

I'd like to see cylinder deactivation in these vehicles.

I saw an old woman today driving a 760i. I think a turbo 6 would have been good enough for her.
