I had an older guy come up to me when I first got my car and he said lexus huh, those made in japan? I said yes sir. He said how come you didnt buy america and I said I like the most for my money. He said you should have bought american then. I then asked him if that was his chevy truck right there and he said yep and asked him if that was rust on his bumper. He didnt like that very much and walked away. Now I had just gotten back from overseas and was still all gung ho about it so I kinda said it in a disrespectful kind of way cause I knew what he was getting at. But now Im back to my chill ways and to that old guy, my bad!

I drove the chevy cobalt in tampa a whilea go and I actually liked it. I thought it had a better interior than the BMW.

I love German design, but they are just to overpriced and way to unreliable.

American cars just have a negative stigma attached to them.

Japanese (nissan and toyota)cars are still the best for now

ooo yay for ignorant facebook groups ... like those dont-buy-gas-on-this-day ... i'm not even going to start on those

i've seen this diagram too ... i can't remember where ... i think it was in some Toyota info thing, showing all the cross-manufacturer auto deals or ... yea, i'll have a google for it

oh for sure, wranglers are designed so that you can hose them out after your outdoor adventure ... yes hose, they have plugs in the floor to let water drain ... totally purpose-designed

i think hate in general is often a case of not understanding what you hate (follow?) because if you knew why it was the way it was you would probably have a different opinion

^^^^^^ while this was one of those type of groups with many ignorant people, there still were people who knew what they were talking about and had facts to backup what they were saying, although like many stupid groups, a majority was there just to say that imports were crap

The biggest problem I use to see was hate for Japanese cars by someone driving Made in Canada "Oh that is not foreign or imported" More people than I can count think Canada is American. My first car was a 1974 Chevy Nova 250 ci 6 cylinder with automatic and power steering it lasted me 7000 miles in that time three tune-ups one recall that I never got GM did not care all it did was rattle creak etc. and got a whopping GREAT 12 Mile a Gallon. bought a Toyota in 1975 and had them since. I got a rental Pontiac Bonneville in 1996 this was a Enterprise upgrade from a Camry OUCH all it did was drink gas rattle creak and the steering was horrible every turn was two full turns of the wheel and hang on then hurry up and turn it back.Oh I forgot no suspension either. Now tell me to buy big three ABSOLUTELY NO WAY.

In some ways, could much of the "hatred" be cultural? I mean, if you go to the Midwest, you'll see many GM/FORD/CHRYSLER products.

For me, living in an Asian "enclave", the majority of vehicles that you see in the parking lots are the typical imports, with the more wealthier ones driving the Bimmers/Benzes. It seems that many Asians dislike American cars, as the few that are seen are simply commercial vehicles for the businesses.
