I think the current E Class is much more streamlined and a lot classier, both inside and out. The interior almost looks like a modern take on some of the Benz's in the late 80s and 90s with the super upright and squared off dash and console. Steering wheel also looks like plastic IMO, but that could just be the picture quality.
Exterior looks alright, but that rear end looks very CamCord-esque generic. Just not "Mercedes Benz" looking to me.

bad move to lose that rear end.
the triangle tail lights used to be the Merc signature style.
they have gone and generic-ified the whole car.
the side profile looks like a big C class.
the rear is just plain, and looks downmarket from a distance.
and the front looks confused- it kinda wants to be a Lexus GS, but isn't sure.

I think the rear is a complete BS rendering. I've seen spy shots of thew new E class previously and they had the square-ish quad lamps. Not so sure about the those downward turned L-shaped fog lamps if they're production or more rendering.
You can tell the rear is wrong because it doesn't match with the front 3/4 shot. The rear shot shows wrap around tailights that reach the corner of the rear windshield. The front 3/4 shots taillights which are visible do not wrap around that far at all.
I mean it could be the angles and everything but to me I call photoshop. The rear is just not classy looking.

The current E has an analog clock in the same spot too. When I first got my E I didn't like the clock there, but eventually you get used to it especially when the rest of the interior is very nice.

The interior looks superb in this photo. The materials look like they're from the S class. Guess that picture we saw on the first page was a prototype interior of sorts or one of those cheaper trim interiors like for taxis and police car fleets. These pictures show a beautifully crafted interior in my opinion.
Wagon spy shot!

I can't believe some of you are complaining about an analog clock. It adds a touch of class and elegance to the interior atmosphere in my opinion. Digital clocks simply don't belong in a luxury car in my opinion. Look at those newer Bentley and Rolls Royce interiors for example: do you see a digital clock in one of them? No. They're staying true to their traditions.
Some older E class interior I dug up on eMercedes showing analog clocks, a tradition it seems also at Mercedes.
