Default Toyota previews new Avensis

Toyota will use the upcoming Paris Motor Show in October to unveil its redesigned flagship model for Europe, the Avensis. Think of it as the old country's version of the Avalon. Though we only have a rear 3/4 shot to go by, the new Avensis looks considerably more chunky than the current model, with a short deck lid, large rear tail-lights, a strong shoulder line and some interesting concave surfacing above the side sills. We don't know much else, other than that it will be offered with more powerful and cleaner engines when it goes on sale in Europe around January.

Toyota also announced that it will be bringing out the production version of its iQ city car and the Urban Cruiser for the Paris show. The Urban Cruiser is basically a ruggedized, soft-roading version of the Scion xD, while the iQ is based on the concept of the same name that debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007.

That's a nice first picture. Looks roomy and nicely styled for a family sedan.

Looks a lot better than the last model. Notice how Toyota doesn't bring the Avensis over and rebadge it a Lexus.....

This looks more like a replace of the aurion (see pic below) than the avalon!

If it is a replace for the avalon for europe, then the US would prob see it as teh new Avalon. Isnt the avalon out of production now?

It is same class car as Mazda6 and Passat in Europe, we dont have Camry, Avalon or any of those larger sedans...

Few things that are interesting for US buyers:
- 6AT for diesel engines (wasnt avail before)
- new 1.8 Valvematic engine with 147hp vs 132hp in dual vvti engine.

Otherwise, this more luxurious yet smaller than Camry...

Yeah the avensis is below camry and above corolla. The avensis is really the euro version of the Corona(premio now) and Carina(allion now).

This car would make an excellent replacement for the Avalon. Looks good..The valance on the rear bumper is similar to that on the Lexus LS460..

yes, if you wanted to replace avalon with an car that is smaller than Camry, that would make sense, but why would you? :-)

it is one size smaller than Camry, nothing to do with Avalon... This is basically specifically engineered car for European market as we do not need as big cars as the USA.
