None of these cars are that interesting to me. I know the GS gets a lot of
hate, but I don't see anything that appealing about the other cars either.
They all look like grandpa cars.

yeah. grandpa for life!
anyway, i don't think the XF is the most beautiful.
but everyone has his opinion.
you can't deny the XF looks like a big ol jelly bean though. so round and flat.

Do you want me to scan every mag from Motor Trend to EVO/CAR in Europe that has said "the XF looks like the Lexus GS in profile"????
The sides are very similar. The GS front is better the XF rear is better.

The GS looks like an XF that doesn't work out and has eaten a dozen boxes of donuts.

That front end leaves me seriously wanting
The GS we both said doesn't ignite us like the 2GS but I like it enough to have it as my next Lexus.

I don't think either one is a stunner. I haven't seen that many XFs, which by itself is pretty surprising, but they have been predominantly dark colors and they don't impress much in dark colors. But both are very easy to just ignore, nothing particularly distinctive on either one. The XF front end just doesn't do it for me but at least they are inoffensive which is probably what they were intended to be. The XF also looks like it got the water pill that the GS so desperately needs. The E definitely stands out in this group. Neither good or bad, you just can notice an E very easily. Genesis is also inoffensive. Maybe that is what everyone is trying for after Bangle's boo boos.
Have the mags now and I suspect that, just like the GS, the Genesis preference won't last. As these things go on, auto mags rarely pick winners very consistently that are value plays. They don't seem to make anything up about the Genesis. It is roomy for the class, at least competitive on performance, has a good ride on smooth roads. But my guess is that won't give them any sort of advantage for long. I originally thought this was a strange group for a comparo but after the first read, it makes a lot more sense. The XF is the closest one here to a sport sedan, the others really aren't. And the XF comes with a lot of baggage from an ownership perspective. So the Genesis is a roomy, comfortable, GS-LS tweener sized sedan at a great price. Maybe that will be enough. Definitely not bad for a first effort and I will look at it but it really depends where Hyundai goes from here.

Sorry to go off topic but if you look under the hood of a car from the 60s, there was enough room in there to swing a cat. A big cat. Today's cars have more equipment on the engines admittedly, but the body's are much tighter to the mechanics. So it is up to the designers to put a body around these things and have it look good. Few cars are getting "six pack abs" looks but many get that bloated look to my eye. And it sure isn't just Lexus. In case it wasn't clear, to my eye, it is the front of the XF that I think isn't my cup of tea. Maybe not bad, but not classic automotive gorgeous by any means. If the side copies anything, well it copies almost everything. I wouldn't flatter the GS with making it the benchmark or the model everyone copies. But when you get to the rear end, you get to the best part, once again IMO. Very nicely done. But I suspect the XF will have to provide more of a driver's reward than the Genesis if it wants to get any traction. Of course Tata is going to have to do what they can for build quality and reliability. They aren't alone in that need in this segment.
