Default 2IS or G35???

so here I've been dwelling, for some time, the need to get a coupe. There are no Lexus coupes I like. I had a loaner IS250 and enjoyed the overall drive; so I would assume, an IS350 would easily prove much more entertaining. I've always been comtemplating a G35 coupe.

Call it a mid-life crisis...I call it something that could possibly be something about 1.0-1.5 seconds slower (0-60) than a porsche 996 my friend has and considerably a lot less money than he spent on his 996 (i know, it's still a porsche and it's hella quick). But when you're only about 1.5 seconds slower, then i believe it comes down to the driver.

Here's the million dollar question: IS350 or G35 coupe???
(i dont recall where i got the below photo, however, if the owner(s) would like for me to remove it, please pm me-btw, the cars in this shot are some bad *** cars)

1-1.5 seconds in 0-60 is a HUGE difference. Unless your friend can't drive at all, there's no way you're going to beat him in a G35. The G35 is still a great car though, and I'd take one over an IS

I would prefer the G35 6MT but if both were auto, I would get the IS.

If speed is a factor, the IS350 will not only blow away a G35 but also the new G37.

IS350 does the 1/4 mile in around 13.4-13.5, the G35 does the same around 14.1 and G37's are running around 13.9s with a tail wind.

The IS would also provide a little better fuel mileage.

doest it hold true that 1 second = 1 car length?
we can both drive, but, my point being more importantly, if i spend about 1/3 of what he paid on a car that can reasonably stay with him, that'll be enough to put a on my face.

IS350 will school the G37 too?
this may, indeed, be my mid-life crisis car so i'm trying to think of any reason not to get into another sedan. therefore, who cares about mileage

I'm not sure how 0-60 times correlate to car lengths, but a 911 will get a nice jump on you from the start (the rear engine helps with traction on the rear wheels to put the power down) and it will just keep pulling away

I do agree with you though that spending 1/3 on a car that can put in a respectable performance is not a bad deal. Or you can spend the same money you would on a new G37 or IS and get a slightly used Vette that can blow him away

The only way I would get the G35 is if you required a 6 speed manual. Otherwise the 2IS is faster, handles nearly as well, if not as well and has a far better interior and features.

The other reason is looks, the G35 still looks very good and has aged well, though the G37 and now Altima coupe made what was original look more common (but the G35 IMO still looks the best).

That black G35 looks nice!

+1 auto against auto I would pick the IS350 all day, but I like my manual trannys so I would 6MT G35 over a IS.

IIRC G35's are hit or miss. I have read that many of them have problems. I don't have one so take my opinion like you would finding .02 on the ground.

I would think that the IS350 would be much less nosier and quiet all around.

In regards to 1sec = 1 car length, that all depends on how fast the two cars are traveling and the location.

IMO, I would look for a used 996 or Z06. They are in a league of their own.

G35 6MT's are notorious for having numerous synchro issues, so if you get one, make sure you get a good certified warranty with it.

A new G37 coupe and sedan will shortly be introduced. Consider this when you look at a G35.

And are you looking at a car just to go drag-racing with? Besides drag racing being illegal and dangerous on public roads, there are LOTS of other things to consider in a vehicle purchase besides just its power-to-weight ratio.

Neither...think about a Evo 8-9 or even a 10.

The sedan is the major new introduction where it gets the coupe's last years 3.7 litre motor and both car autos will be upgraded to a seven speed.

Trouble is, the 3.7 did not increase the 1/4 mile time of the coupe by more than .1 seconds, which was disappointing with the supposed extra 24 HP. The VVEL tech in the new VQ seems to primarily help out slightly with mileage and emissions and gains about 1 mpg more for highway mileage. This motor still does not have direct injection.

The combo direct and port injection torque advantages throughout the RPM range really seems to help the IS350 obtain its sterling acceleration numbers.
