Post Infiniti M35 to get 303-hp V6 VQ35HR engine

The M35 will drop its 3.5 liter V6 in favor for the new V6 VQ35HR engine found in the current G35 sedan. That will give the M35 an additional 28 horsepower for a total of 303 with a peak torque of 262 lb-ft.

No word on whether the M45 engine will be upgraded. But if it does we’d put our money on the 390-hp 5.0 liter V8 from the new 2009 Infiniti FX50.

lol....Hopefully fuel economy gets better being mated to the 7 speed. Weird they are updating the engine/tranny so late in the same bodystyle, I would think it would work better to debut in a new vehicle.

Bottom line, glad this new engine/tranny is going in the Infiniti sedans.

Late in the same body style, how long has the M been shipping, 3 years? Don't most manufacturers have a mid life upgrade, much like the GS430 to GS460 (or even the original GS400 to GS430)? How often should a car get totally renewed?

How are they getting so much power out of a NA v6?

The M35/45 got a refresh the same time as the GS, just last fall. Its going on its 5th year now like the GS.

Infiniti if you remember totally revamped the G35 sedan here in 4 years, that is a very short time to be around compared to most luxury car makers. Not sure how long the M35/45 cycle is.

HUGE EDIT

This is the newer 3.5 V-6, not the 3.7 in the G37 sedan coupe. So it looks like they will indeed wait for the new bodystyle M37/50 to debut the new engines. Good idea, IMO.

I mis-read thinking this was the 3.7 liter engine.

Good to see the M35 getting the new VQ35HR. The VQ35HR is superior to the VQ35DE in every manner.

The 03-05 M's have almost nothing in common. The only thing in common the 03-05 M's have in common with the 06-09 M's is...the M

Other than that, it was a complete redesign from inside out (including a completely different platform).

Now, Infiniti needs to find the same recipe they use on the G & M, and carry it over to a flagship model.

It would still be outperformed by its little brother-G37 sedan.

I got my year mixed up. Though I thought the M35 debuted in 2005 as a 2005 model and the GS debuted in 2005 as a 2006 model?

I've read many 350Z owners didn't like this engine in comparison to the older version, I believe it consumes oil and has lower torque?

Okay the RWD M35 gets the 7 speed. The AWD model keeps the 5 speed.

MPG gain is 1MPG with the 7 speed.

I feel like the M has aged pretty poorly. I was looking at a new 2008/9 model on the highway yesterday. Looks very dated IMO. With the G37 in lineup, IMO I feel like there is no need to upgrade.

The engine upgrade is nice. They should have dropped that engine in it 2 years ago.

03-04 M45 only, Infiniti did not officially have an 05, they extend the previous model year with an early introduction of the new model the 06-09 is the current model
