Gas prices (up to $5, down to $2?) [merged]

People are so dumb. This thing isnt even a Cat-3 yet and its on land already, the eye is passing over right now. More media overhype. They've seen gusts at a max of ~85 or so, this thing might not even be called a Cat-2 at landfall.
We've had a mild summer and the water temps near the coasts are 6-7 degrees cooler than last year. They were flabbergasted when gustav died off to a cat-2 before it hit land. The high for this summer around here was like 93 or something; thats almost mild. Most days have been in the mid 80s.
Yes, there's going to be some flooding, but its not going to be the ridiculous proportions that Katrina was. Why am I pissed about this? Because the media overhype is partially what caused the apathetic condition that made the whole Katrina situation MUCH MUCH worse. If you cry wolf too many times, people stop listening.

Want proof that speculators are controlling the oil prices, and not actual market conditions? After dropping steadily for a couple of months now ($0.50-0.60), gas prices took a sharp hike in the last few days. Why? Ike, of course. They went up BEFORE the storm actually hit land.....or the offshore drilling wells. They went up in ANTICIPATION of a shortage without waiting for a REAL one....that's a dead giveaway to price manipulation. Can't blame Bush....or Congress.....or even the oil companies. It's a Wall-Street problem with day-traders and speculators..
Oil-price control by advance-speculators is something that's GOT to change. Neither Obama or McCain seem to be concerned much with it; or at least haven't said much about it.
