Gas prices (up to $5, down to $2?) [merged]
Well it seems hysteria is hitting people as gas prices rise 20-30 cents AS you fill out. I've heard regular is back over $4 in 2 days.
As soon as it was named Ike I said "why would they name it Ike, don't they know Ike whoops ***"!!
Can $5 be around in the next month? Hmmmmmm
Wholesale gasoline prices jumped to around $4.85 a gallon for fear of vast shortages. That was up substantially from about $3.25 on Wednesday and less than $3 on Tuesday.

Crude supplies aren't much of a problem. The offshore production platforms in the region are well protected against a Cat 2 storm, and after a few days, we can expect full production can resume. Refining is another story.
As noted in an earlier post in the clubhouse, most of the US refining capacity is located in the coastal arc between Freeport and New Orleans. This is the target of a massive storm surge produced by Hurricane Ike. The facilities have been shutting down for the past few hours as the storm surge affects the coast, raising mean water levels by as much as 20 feet. Should these plants be flooded, it may take months to bring full production back on stream.
That means an increase in gas prices, but worse it may mean that gasoline is unavailable due to shortage of supply. It's too early to tell, but gas prices will undoubtedly increase. The question is how long we can expect them to remain high.

Gas wasn't a problem until the idiots rushed to the gas station and ran the town dry today. Hmm there may be a possible supply issue so let's go RUN THE STATIONS DRY.

Im in houston. Some places have charged over $4.00 a gallon for gas where cornering gas stations were at most at $3.40 indicating trouble for those charging more on purpose.
situation is getting worst as we speak..i live just north of houston in spring and can already feel the effects and Ike has barely made landfall in galveston.
