JLSC4 is correct; the regular Fiesta is on its way next year.

I know it's not Ford's fault that Americans won't open up their eyes to NEW clean diesel technology.

One of the things holding up the diesel version may be the fact that the new low-sulfur fuel here costs way more than even premium gas. Even if Americans can accept the new Blue-Tec (urea-injection) Diesels themselves, selling us on the expensive fuel for them is another matter. 60 MPG doesn't go that far if you have to pay $5 a gallon to get that kind of mileage to start with....and, to top it off, the urea tanks have to be refilled every 10K at the dealership.

Yeah that flabbergasts me why anyone would want one of those when a Toyota Yaris would be a lot cheaper, hold more, and I think it gets similar mileage. not to mention, safer!

Ford have a very good reputation for reliablity in Europe and are generally not very far off the Japanese models.

in this form, it gets 10% better fuel economy than Prius, so that makes it an 50 MPG car.

Additionally, most of its extra economy compared to same engine which is not "eco", comes from extra long gears and slow pedal response to "trick" euro mpg tests. We dont know about Ford, but VW's Polo with similar mpg results did so without AC unit in the car - with AC, it got worse mpg than Prius.

At these point, these cars are just an PR shots for VW and Ford, as they are more expensive without real mpg savings in real life, so nobody buys them.

it is all very subjective, Yaris has won many, many tests in German magazines, and is 3 years old now. You expect new car to do things better, but Euro Yaris's are really nice cars with really good engines. There are always some positives and negatives.

For instance, Yaris is a lot more practical than Fiesta, and thats with spare wheel included. You can slide and thumble back seats to get completly flat back area. Fiesta has small trunk, can only match Yaris without spare wheel and there is no sliding or flat cargo space.

... and my point I made in post #5:

The Yaris is designed as a $12-$15K car.
So why are we still comparing a $14K car to a $20K++ car?

Because we're not - we're comparing two European built superminis that are direct competitors in the same market.

Yaris prices start at £9k and go up to £12.5k for the top spec ones.

Fiesta prices start at £9.5k and go up to £13k - but larger discounts are available on the Ford.

So, in the European market, the two cars are priced against each other. Yes, in the US the Yaris is cheap by comparison, but so are all cars - there's nothing to say the Fiesta wouldn't/couldn't be priced similarly.
