I'd wait for the new G37 and IS hardtop convertibles to debut this fall.

I can't think of any AWD hardtop converts.

Lease an SL? SLK. Maybe a Pebble Beach SC 430? 335 convert.

SICK is right. There aren't any in the American market that I could find either. AWD convertibles, especially those with retractible hardtops, are something that automakers don't invest in much, primarily because of image (yes, there we go.....that old image bugaboo again). Convertibles are generally perceived as fair-weather cars, with a drive through an occasional rainstorm......conditions where AWD usually is not needed.

Audi, however, bucks the trend, and does make a couple of soft-top convertibles, primarily in the A4/S4 line, with Quattro AWD, if you can do with a conventional ragtop.

If you HAVE to have the retractible-hardtop, and still want at least halfway decent winter traction, there are a few models available right now with FWD. Check out the VW Eos, Pontiac G6, Chrysler Sebring, and Volvo C70.

there are usually anywhere between 1 ~ 3 3000GT Spyders listed on eBay at any given time. Most are SL, sometimes I see VR4 ones.

As of today, there are actually 2 VR4 Spyders on eBay.

I almost **** my pants when I saw one a few weeks ago. I think it was only the second one I've ever seen.

That's the key. It doesn't sound like she wants a used car.

Thanks for all the opinions guys thus far! She does want a new car a mmarshall mentioned previously. She does not want a ragtop car only because she "feels" that the car would have a cold feeling during the winter. You know women...you can't argue with them especially with my boss' wife. If she wants a hardtop conv. then that's what we'll look for.lol She could bend on the AWD and FWD as she is going to "have to" due to the non-existence of such cars. No RWD cars, she said that her Lexus SC430 was scary for her in the winter. So it looks like I am going to check out that VW and Volvo with her. The Volvo looks nice! I saw one on the road the other day. Also, she doesn't mind downgrading on a class of car; she actually doesn't want an $1100/mo lease payment anymore. lol

+1 A good set of snow tires do wonders for any car. Unless of course you suck at driving to begin with and don't know how to handle in snow but that's a different story.

335i convertible, but no AWD right? Still, it looks good and handles well and fast engine and close to $60k mark.

lol...trust me fast is NOT what she needs. She isn't that great of a driver to put it nicely.

Than I say get Volvo C70. FWD, hardtop convertible, peppy but not over powering engine, price is 40k starting. Styling is subjective but I'd take the C70 over the Sebring, G6 and Eos.

She should take a hard look at the Pontiac G6 hardtop vert. The car comes standard with Onstar and other features that are options or not even available on many drop tops.. All for $30k GM is offering employee discounts to the public right now so she will be able to save additional cash on her purchase.
