I swear this whole pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way rule really makes for very crappy pedestrians. I've seen so many pedestrians expecting cars to stop in big dangerous streets with fast moving traffic just because they're pedestrians. More often than not they have this lazy arrogant strut as they do this too as if they're saying to themselves.. yeah I'm crossing HERE and NOW beotch.. whatcha gonna do about it?!?! In the city I also see all these people who are busy talking and not paying attention to the signal lights or traffic conditions and just cross blind regardless if they have a red light or not. More often than not it seems like to them red means walk and green means stop. ARghhhh In other parts of the world they have the rule that cars have the right of way and pedestrians GOTTA WATCH BEFORE THEY CROSS!!! Which makes sense to me because if a car hits you ummmm you die!

I find it more frustrating in parking lots when they walk right down the center of the isle when you are trying to get a spot... several times I've been sure to "exchange some pleasantries" when I pass them... not foul, but perhaps, "Thanks for finally getting over, I thought I might not get in the store before it closes waiting for you to move"...

But in short, my story is, I stopped on a red wanting to make a right, i edge out (as a result blocking the crosswalk), guy goes around my car, slaps my trunk, talks smack, I talk smack back and we go about our business.

In all the years I've driven in San Francisco, most people respect the drivers because they are drivers themselves. But there are always a few who will just keep on walking in hopes of being clipped by a car to collect on your insurance.
OK--but your guy wasn't jaywalking. He was crossing with the green in the cross walk, right? If so, he has the right of way. There's no law that says you MUST make a right on red--only that you can if it's all clear.

I had a situation crossing the other day where I stepped out with a green walk sign and a Hummer took the right turn wide from behind me on my left to try to beat me through the turn, he got close enough that I could smack his car with my hockey stick. He continued a little bit then slammed on his brakes and said something back at me, I just waived him on over and kept walking, he drove off.
I hate when drivers don't stop before a stop sign. They stop after their car has pulled up past the stop sign and at the physical intersection of the streets. You know how scary it is if you have some dude BOWLING through an intersection to come to a complete stop at the intersection when you're driving on your merry way in the perpendicular direction?
If there's a stop sign stop before it if there's no stop line. In MA the law is to stop at the first set of traffic lines at an intersection. Not roll up 40 mph and slam the brakes when you get to the intersection blocking off the crosswalk and also scaring the crap out of perpendicular traffic.

The other day I was walking out of campus to get something to eat. There was this SUV that was trying to make a right, his light was green. Then there's this girl who was crossing and her light was "no crossing". The SUV's light turned yellow and he started creeping up closer and closer while this girl takes her sweet *** time. While she passes the SUV, she said something like "wtf you tryna do, kill me or sumthin?!" I just wanted to smack that girl right there and then. If only I could drop her off in Asia, let's see who will survive then.
Dude, I also came from Asian and I know exactly what you mean. These people won't survive a day over there.

When I pulled up to the red, the crosswalk was clear for a while, so I just edged up. Then the Fabio dude just felt like giving my car a smack. Whatever, he's just hatin' he don't drive a Lexus.

The way I look at it is that a car/truck/suv is a lot bigger than I am so in any encounter with it, the car will always win. I always stop and wait for cars, no matter what. I sometimes get strange looks and people wave me to cross but I leave that decision up to them. I call that common courtesy, something that is lost on most people now a days.
It kills me that people that step out in front of you and then go as slow as possible just to make you angry. Or the ones that walk down the middle of the parking lot like they are the only ones on this earth and will not move over for your to drive past them.

Holy crap, dude. That's gotta be kinda traumatizing, too...

I'm guessing it was the pedestrian's fault both times?
