I feel nothing close to grainy on my 3is honestly , to me of all the cars I've been in and driven , this by far has the best leather. The soft , smooth and plush seats are amazing when new . I also suppose the LS leather must be fantastic in a new level of comfort ?

My roommate has a 97' ES and the leather still feels so soft and amazing! As well as in great condition....people just need to take care of their cars.

off topic, sorry but if you want your leather to feel soft and smooth for al ong time, buy a car new, tint the windows and clean and condition it once a month. if you buy a used car with non tinted windows and no leather maintenance it will never be very soft and smooth.
hte UV rays from the sun kill leather. tinted windows keep the sun out.

on topic: good review on the genesis. i'd like to go look at one now.

I think the leather in the LS is by far the best Lexus leather I've felt. I don't know how they will hold up in the long term, but is does feel good. Comparing side by side on the same day, I felt the leather in the Acura RL was much softer and more supple than the leather in the 3GS though. I also felt the leather in the older LS430 was a little more supple than the leather in the LS460-L that had the reclining rear seat that I was in. However, that was back to back comparisons immediately on the same day withing 10-15 minutes of each other in brand new cars so it was easier to tell the difference.

The leather in my current 03 GS 430 is actually pretty soft and supple. Not LS 430 UL soft, but better than my 99 LS400 which I though was pretty good at the time.

mmarshall, you know your stuff about cars, but this is completely wrong

on a side note:

Hyundai is known for its inferior powertrains. It might make the power, but the response is horrible; like driving a uhaul truck. Thats most likely what mplexus301 felt when driving the car. Engine response is almost half the equation when determining seat-of-the-pants acceleration.

As for torque... it does not represent your acceleration at all. It is primarily stated so that the reader knows the general width of the powerband; as peak horsepower numbers dont tell the story either. If the above were true, modded turbodiesel HD trucks would be running faster times than mid-high 13s when making 750-900 ft-lbs of torque with a chip, motorcycles wouldnt run 9 and 10 second quarter mile times from the factory, and F1 cars would be slow as dirt.
