Default Toyota Adds Flex Fuel And New TRD Models To Tundra Pickup Line For 2009

Toyota is expanding consumer choice with the Tundra full-size pickup truck line for 2009, adding flex fuel models and new TRD (Toyota Racing Development) option packages. The E85 flex fuel is available on 5.7-liter 4x4 models in select regions – creating 10 model configurations in all.

Two new TRD option packages underscore two sides of Tundra’s capability. The TRD Rock Warrior Package adds off-road suspension, unique wheels, and a striking Black or Super White exterior color scheme. The TRD Sport Package with a distinctive Black or Radiant Red color-keyed exterior is optimized for on-road performance and has unique wheels.

Also for 2009, Double Cab and Crew Max models gain a standard chrome grille surround. A bench front seat is a new no-cost option on SR5 grade models. Altogether, the 2009 Tundra offers a choice of 45 models in three wheelbases, three cab styles, three bed lengths, three engines, and three trim levels, and with 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains.

Fail!
Flexfuel is the worst "alt" fuel ever.

Where is the TRD package with the SC, Toyota loves to add wheels and badges and call it a special model and increase the price

Flex fuel is a great feature on GM trucks & will do wonders for Toyota trucks. I say do it! This feature will surely improve fuel economy on these rigs. I got excellent fuel mileage on the Yukon below I rented a while back.. Expect this badge on some Toyota trucks

E85 is about 50 cents cheaper than gasoline here. So while you get fewer MPGs, you prolly break even $$$$ wise, might as well do it by using less oil and burning cleaner.

E85 sucks, it contains less energy inside compared to normal petrol, and costs a bajillion bucks to make compared to normal gas

This is nothing more than Toyota to being forced to response to the American truck makers. Toyota usually does not make these minimal changes to their vehicles as it cost them money which eats into profits.. Toyota only made the 5.7 flex fuel and left the 4.7 alone.

Interesting how Toyota didn't bother making the Land Cruiser/LX570 flex fuel.

They should've made a hybrid instead, loads of torque.

And wasting food resources to make fuel.
I've seen ZERO pumps in MA for E85.

I've seen just one E85 gs station in Philly. They also have Natural Gas and I believe biofuel. But its in such a horrible location no one will no its there.

As far as adding this to the Tundra. I don't care either way.

Word. Flexfuel is garbage.

... At least until they start using cellulosic ethanol to make E85, rather than that corn-based bull****.

Its a gimmick. Ethonol is corn we need for food, not gas. Then the damn runoff is polluting the Mississippi River even more right into the Gulf of Mexico.

Ethanol has a higher AKI, but its thermal efficiency SUCKS. E85 has a lower BTU value than straight gas. GM and Ford had prototype FFV cars with latent heat cats to store heat so that the cat has a quicker light-off time due to that fact.

And corn/soy ethanol is a dumb idea anyway.
