The The Story Behind the Demise of Motorex - the Importer of Skylines
#18
In this case Canada will be able to import these cool cars before us in the US, 10 yr restriction I believe it is. On the ST Celica board they are wetting their pants because they get to start importing the All Wheel Drive Celica Turbos next year I believe. In the US I think its 25 years wait before you can import, I don't know about you but there aren't any 1983 Imports I am lusting after LOL

yea but back then a lot of times if there was something you really needed and nobody else could get it or do the work for you you had no choice but to use them, even if they were shady. at least now you have a lot more choices, which is a good thing. well at least i think it is.

in the early days of the import tuner scene, there were a lot of shady deals and lots of people who were in the grey area running shops, sponsoring people, and many part of some racing crews. so while this was interesting, im not all that surprised, which is why when i used to buy parts for my car i never gave them my real address, some of the older people probably know why.
most people in the scene in So Cal have known about Motorex for awhile, but they got the most attention since they were the "it" store for Skylines.

Craziness, and that's not the half of it.
Those guys were selling the same car to multiple customers.
The blue R34 that Paul Walker "bought" actually belonged to a Korean businessman. Just wild stuff.
The only car I know of that came out of there somewhat cleanly was the R34 Blackbird that Craig Lieberman bought. I did the wheels on it and we used it in our booth in '02 when I was at HRE. Craig painted that car Lamborghini Monterey Blue and it was then repainted silver and used as the star car in F&F2. Then it was repainted back to blue, sold, and that customer painted it back to black. I was one of very few people who got to drive that car!
Memories!

I can't count how many times I've heard of people taking their 12 second eclipse turbos in for work, and a week later the car is stolen and stripped. In the import scene, NEVER give your real address when buying parts, pay cash, and if you leave your alarm key, expect it to be cloned. My g/f bought some rims at a shop, a week later her car was on blocks.... its a jungle out there.
